Is there a method to this madness?

Recommended Posts

I know I am only 6 days post op from gastric bypass! I am super sore and this tightening in my stomach but really high up just won’t go away. I’m not getting anything over 20oz of fluids a day...today I finally got in 30g Protein from a protein shake(that was me forcing myself) I feel like any movements I make hurt and even walking is really painful (I’m walking every hour or even more) I’ve lost 17lbs in 6 days which I’m sure is awesome! Is there a trick to this LOL sounds so silly to ask how can I get all this down and when does the pain start to ease? Or atleast this tightening feeling? I know everyone is different and all recoveries are different. Figured I’d ask to try new things...have only been trying Water Protein Shakes and apple juice. I tried jell-o but I felt like it got stuck and the sensation of it after was very painful. Suggestions??

Sounds like you are still having gas pains. Just keep moving and trying to get in your fluids. It is hard for the first week or so but you do need more fluids. Keep Water with you at all times and sip it.

It does get better the more you move. If you’re on meds that don’t make you drowsy, try taking it and then walking and see if you’re able to walk more or move in different ways to get the gas out.

And with the Jello, you kind of have to let it dissolve in your mouth and then swallow. I just avoided it all together for the first 3 weeks. sugar free Popsicles were heaven for me though: got some variety with flavor and was able to consume more Fluid

Yeah I didn’t add sugar free popsicles I’ve had a few of those and tolerated! I haven’t taken pain meds since the day I left the hospital I just don’t like the way they make me feel! I did however, just eat some Tomato Soup and so far so good as far as tolerating it!! I do move (what the doctor considers enough) even through the pain! It’s so hard to explain thank you

Nothing you have described is silly. Pain is a real thing and is experienced differently. Some people have a higher tolerance for pain is all. Don't beat up on yourself by minimizing your best efforts. Hang in there.

The thing that helped me a lot when I was sore was my handy dandy heating pad. It also helps ease gas pains. With the Water, it went down easier for me when I added flavoring to it. I eventually started to hate Protein Shakes so I don't even drink those. Best way to get them is from like GENEPRO or if you prefer... Just keep at it with the shakes. You can even make them yourself, if you're up to it.

I did eat sugar free popsicles but got tired of them.

However, don't be so hard on yourself. No question is a silly question 'round these parts. After all, you're just learning. The entire process is a learning experience and our bodies are all different and handle things in their own unique special ways. I'll be around, feel free to ask me questions if need be.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
