I'll be having surgery in July, not sure of date yet. A little terrified!!! I'm 53 yrs old (live in CA) and think recovery may take longer because I'm over 50 yrs old? I hope I'm wrong. I'm hoping for early July, as the anticipation is rough! Can't wait for it to be here....

Push tosh, I am 72, an ornery spunky redheaded. 72 and I will also have a July date. I will have an RnY at OSU-Wexner Medical Center in Columbus Ohio, no fears whatsoever, all of mine drowned a long time ago in my tears. Now I'm just moving forward , clear eyed , a spring in my step, not easy with 2 knee replacements, and hope in my❤. This is going to be a great wonderous day, indeed it will be my REBIRTHDAY and I hardly can wait!! Recovery may be longer, may be slower but I am a Baby Boomer, we do things with the class our Mamas instilled in us. Our weight, loss can and will be as good as the youngsters. If not, poof, it's still better than dying obese and in pain. I have lived this long and it is my intention to continue . Wanna hang around with me?🌟🚩😝🚩🌟

I turned 50 in March. We can still do this. I am going for Tummy Tuck after. I love the beach and plan on spending time there when this is over. My surgery can't come soon enough!!!

California girl here! I'm scheduled for July 11th and a little nervous as I'll be doing this on my own and in Mexico. Doing a lot of research beforehand so I know what to expect. Trying to prepare myself mentally for pain, nausea and heartburn. Hoping to make surgery buddies here too.

Good luck and good health to all of us!

I’m scheduled for July 11and I’m very anxious.

Me too. The more you read on what to expect, the better. I've been following and reading several previous patients stories and write down important details and questions I should ask. I think that's important with every surgery.

I am very excited to have my surgery date! July 16th! I am having trouble sticking to my diet. I have gained back about 3 pounds. Any suggestions? I have really craved sugar lately.

Mdarnell, Start that diet back. Drink alot of Water to flush out the bad things you ate. I need to get back to lots of water myself. I have to watch what I am eating not to gain weight before surgery. I have NO pre op diet to follow. Its not required

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
