Sugar free instant breakfast Q's

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I just had my gastric bypass done on 5/30/2018 (last Wednesday). I am on stage 2 diet and it's a lot of liquids. I am also vegetarian, so it's hard to get my Protein in. I like GENEPRO and I was wondering if I could add it to No sugar added "light start" instant Breakfast. In my handbook from the hospital it says "sugar free" instant breakfast. I'm just so confused if the "no sugar added" and the "sugar free" are the same. It has 60 calories per packet and 7g sugar. I'd mix it with almond milk. Is it okay to drink? Thanks everyone. I'm new to this site, so i hope I'm doing this correctly!

ps- Any vegetarians on here? What ways do you get protein in?

Soy Protein and Pea Protein are both easily available veggie Proteins you can use.

Be careful of GENEPRO, they were sued because the amounts of protein they claim was in each serving was actually more than 1/2 less.

sugar free means, ZERO Sugar.
No Sugar Added means, there is going to be natural sugars, but nothing has been added.
IE, Strawberries have sugar in them naturally. No strawberry can be listed as "sugar free" but a fresh off the plant strawberry could be listed as "no sugar added".

So, anything that says "no sugar added" only means they didn't specifically add more sugar to the mix, it does not mean there isn't already sugars naturally included.

7g is a little high, but if you can tolerate it, you can tolerate it. We were instructed to watch for anything with sugar in the ingredients that's over 5g.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
