concert either after surgery/ during pre op liquid diet?

Recommended Posts

hey guys

i don’t have a date yet for my surgery, but it will be some time in late july. if it does fall around this time, then it’s the same time as a concert i want to attend (warped tour) which is an all day festival like concert.
i was wondering if you guys thought it would be okay for me to go if it’s during my pre-op phase (in terms of “stamina” i suppose- could i last all day on the pre-op diet or is that too hard) or the other side of that being a week or so after surgery, would it be too strenuous to go and be standing in crowds, being in the sun all day, etc. the concert is either july 15 or july 27 (i could attend it in CT or MA, as i live in MA). again, i don’t have a date for my surgery yet but late july most likely

I don't recommend going the week after surgery as getting enough fluids and nutrition is difficult under normal circumstances and impossible while standing in the sun all day - you would likely pass out. I think you could manage it in the pre-op stage.

I'm going to go with no. You *might* be ok before surgery, you'll just need to take extra care with your fluids and energy usage, but if you are smart you should be ok *Before* surgery. After, you are going to want a few weeks before you start exposing yourself to that level of overall stress.

I'd just be cautious overall and have an exit plan just in case.

Standing in the sun and humidity all day a week after surgery would be hard. I had an easy recovery, but that would have definitely been overly exhausting for me at that point.

For the preop diet I'd ask your surgeon what the parameters are. I'd definitely ask if you could eat some lean Protein on this day. Not medical advice, but if it were me, I might bend the rules a little this day, if you're on an all liquid diet. IMO these preop diets are arbitrary, (I didn't have one) and I wouldn't want to miss a big event like this, or be miserable during it,

Pre-op phase, you will be fine. post op I would wait at least 2 weeks. I got surgery on May 30th, and I feel fine to attend Hardwell in NY on June 23rd.

A week after....no. Don't do it.

Pre-op? You might be ok. But you'll be tired and hungrier than you've ever been in your life. You'll probably have a brutal headache. All the people grilling and eating junk food and drinking around you will suck...a lot. But if you're so into the music that it's a good distration, maybe this could work.

Personally? I'd give the surgery and prep the priority it deserves....and skip the concert. You're having major abdominal surgery. Avoiding stress and dehydration just prior is common sense.

I definitely would not do it in pre op phase or that soon after surgery. No way jose.

Wouldn’t do either. Don’t risk the surgery by going before - you’ll be miserably hungry and irritable lol. After- no way possible.

Skip it and go next year— this is worth it!

unfortunately this is the last year the tour is running! though, now that i’m closer to having my date i have a better idea. I think my surgery will be a few days before the MA date, making it pretty impossible to go. but if I get the date i want for surgery, i shouldn’t even have to start my pre-op diet yet for the date of the Connecticut show, which i might go to instead.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
