Has anyone advanced their diet early?

Recommended Posts

It ends up that my family and in laws are suddenly going out for supper. The place that we are going to has cottage cheese which will be the only thing that I can maybe eat. I was bypassed last Tuesday and am only a day or two from pureed foods. Does this sound like something I can do? Thanks.

I was given cottage cheese from the hospital the day after my surgery! I have eaten it every day so far since then (5days) and have had no problems with it :)

I wouldn’t advance myself without the surgeon/teams ok. Just follow your plan and stay safe.

Or call your surgeon and ask

How about Soup? Most places offer some sort of soup.

I don't think anyone should advance without asking their surgeon first.

Cottage cheese isn't solid like string cheese. Cottage cheese can be smashed easily a lot of programs allow it from week 1. I can see why string cheese would be a problem.

Cottage cheese would be fine, I was eating chunkier things on puree's, you just need to be very careful about your quantities and make sure to chew into a puree. Watch out for Soups, there are often a LOT of sugar added in there, it would really suck for you to dump while out with your family!

Personally you'll want to try any "non-approved" foods at home first, just in case you have any issues. But you can eat things you really shouldn't if you can tolerate them. It's just a habit you REALLY don't want to get into if you can avoid it. Look for other, approved options first.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
