Liquid diet: retried beans or whipped avocado?

Recommended Posts

I am on the liquid diet and my doctor said I could have cottage cheese. I thought he said something about refrained Beans, but he may have been meaning during my soft food stage. Anyone know if you can do refrained beans or puréed avocados on the liquid diet? Apologies if this is a lame question. Thanks for your help!!!

I would consider those soft foods not liquids. I would call or email your team to get clarification

Well "try the refry" and let us know the answer, they both sound yummy to me!

liquid is liquid. Cottage cheese, etc., is soft. If you are still in the "liquid" phase, I'd hope your doc didn't say to start with soft foods. Small particles can get trapped in the incision/staple line and you don't want that to happen. Usually the transition is Clear Liquids -->full liquids [~creamed Soup liquid, etc.]-->soft foods, with particulate matter, etc. [If in the liquid phase, what are you, 1-2 (or 3) weeks post-op?]

Before starting anything more than true liquids, I'd check with the doctor/nutrition team.

Thank you Dr-Patient. I appreciate your comment. I should have clarified my stage. I’m in the two week pre operation phase. So no pouch yet. I am very thankful for your concern and advice!

Seems almost every doctor is different. My "Liquid" pre-op was mainly shakes, but I could have watermelon and celery (as well as broth and SF Jello, but those are "liquids" anyway). So just do what your doctor/surgical team says, any questions related to what they've instructed you on really should go to them at this point.

Good Luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
