Em_Jay75 81 Posted June 3, 2018 ...how often, and how far/long do I want to aim for right after surgery? (Surgery through the first 3 weeks)
James Marusek 5,244 Posted June 3, 2018 According to my hospital discharge directions: Walk 8-10 times daily for at least (a total of) 30 minutes (helps healing, nausea, gas, pain and to avoid constipation). 1 Em_Jay75 reacted to this
KimTriesRNY 1,853 Posted June 3, 2018 I was walking twice a day, slowly increasing my time up to 30 minutes twice daily by about two weeks post op. I would walk once in the morning and once in the early evening.
Dr-Patient 830 Posted June 3, 2018 In addition to short walks on my block (into two near cul-de-sacs), etc., around the two-week mark, I went to big stores like Wal-Mart and Sam's (even Home Goods) etc., grabbed a cart for support, and walked the aisles...without buying anything. I felt that really helped me get my strength back, and also some easy exercise. 2 SydneySleever and ProudGrammy reacted to this
Kat410 423 Posted June 4, 2018 After surgery you want to move as soon and as much as possible. I walked immediately after waking up and walked about every two hours afterwards for the first few days (since I was not sleeping through the nights I just got up and moved) As you fully recover the more movement the better. Matt Z 4,139 Posted June 5, 2018 Get up every hour and walk around a bit, it adds up overall. Your goals should be to walk a little more than your last time, doesn't matter if that's 1 extra step, 1 extra second, or 1 extra foot. Just do what YOU can! 1 Matt Z reacted to this
Numbheart 108 Posted June 11, 2018 Yes, 30 minutes walk is fine according to my cousin who gave birth under CS.
