When did you start losing weight after your gastric bypass surgery??? No weight loss yet and nervous 😟

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!

So you guys are amazing and always reassure me and answer my millions of questions lol so here’s another one for you....

When did you start losing weight after your gastric bypass surgery? I’m 5 days post op and have not lost any weight yet. I actually am heavier than I was on my surgery date but only by a pound or two. I know they pump you up with things and I’m still crazy bloated BUT I’m just nervous that I’m doing something wrong. How long until I should start seeing some progress? When do I worry?

Are there any cases where you don’t lose significant weight after the surgery even if you follow the meal plans?

I guess I have a lot of time on my hands while recovering and am overthinking things a lot lol. Please humour me...lol

Thanks in advance :)

Don’t fret, it’ll come! They fill you with loads of saline - if you feel bloated, that is why. Some people don’t really lose for a couple of weeks - others just a few days.

Stick to your plan, sip sip sip, and you’ll be a loser in no time!!

Probably anytime now you’ll see it. Be sure you’re up and walking a lot to get stuff moving. Mine took a few days too!

Focus on letting your body heal.

It may be laparoscopic but it is major surgery. You could do yourself a huge favor by just putting that scale away for a few weeks.

I gained 10 lbs. from being in the hospital & it took 5 days for that to come off. The weight loss will come. Just keep drinking and walking. Don’t worry about the weight falling off quickly just yet

A few days after I left the hospital.

The weight will come off, just give it some time. The best thing to do is avoid the scale for the first few weeks or so. Make sure to keep track of your measurements also because if the numbers on the scale aren't changing... Your measurements surely are. 🙂

I wasn't able to weigh myself for a week after surgery because of where I was staying (away from home). At my one week checkup I was down three pounds. I lost another three in a day or two. It will happen.

Thanks everyone!

I put away my scale and promised myself not to go on it again until my two week mark. It’s so hard not to be curious and to not hop on it every chance I get! Lol

I am 5 days post op and down 5 pounds. I been logging and measuring everything. Even though u are on liquids u can eat through the pouch. But my surgeon also weaned me off all the stuff really fast as soon as they New I had no leaks I was immediately put on fluids and small amounts. My drip was small amount at that point as well. Right know I am having a heard time getting all my Water and Protein in I feel like I wake up at 6am and do nothing but drink tell 9pm. I am still shy on my protein but getting there hopefully when I go to pruared foods it will be easier to get it. I also started this journey with a low BMI of 32. I am also up and moving I don’t sit around during the day. I don’t know what your regiment is but I still try a get a min of 5,000 steps a day. Which is half the amount I was doing before surgery

My surgery team to,d everyone at our last group meeting not to weigh our selves daily and not to expect weight loss for at least a week because of the gas, and fluids that are used durning surgery. So I’ve decided to weigh myself only at my doctors visits. I am not going to worry because I know this process works.

Remember, they may have given you steroids like they did me, they filled you with fluids, and your body is healing. Don’t sweat it. If you are active, following your program and tracking, it will come off! Best wishes!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
