Bloatedness abdominal muscle pain day 2 post op

Recommended Posts

Hi guys! Been casually observing this forum but now I’ve decided to take the dive!

It’s day 2 post op gastric bypass. Generally feeling ok, except extreme bloated ness (a mix feeling of bloated ness and muscle pain) at the upper abdomen area.

Is this normal and will it subside? What do you guys do/ask for to make this feeling go away?

Hi!

I had my gastric bypass on Monday (would that make me day 5 or day 4 post op? Not sure if you count the surgery day lol) and was extremely bloated and had muscle pain in the upper area as well. It only started to subside today although still slightly sore. Just give it time :)

It certainly will, keep walking and using your incentive spirometer! Deep breathing exercises help greatly as well, take a long slow deep breath in, hold it, then press into it slightly (like doing a crunch) hold it for a few then exhale slowly. This forces gasses trapped in your abdomen into your bloodstream, helps out more than you can imagine!

It’s totally normal. Over time it will subside. Just make sure you keep moving around, walking and drinking your Water.

And welcome!

Same here, it helps to walk, and it will get better. Each day all the little things get better. Today getting up from my chair was easier then testerday. Plus last night i was able to sleep on my side..which was amazing.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
