thanks i am new to this. i went to the seminar and there they said that when you come to your first appt to bring approval from your insurance that it could be covered. i was really dissappointed and i am considering taking out a loan or finding a doctor that finances(is there such a thing). but reading all the post last nite about uhc gave me hope.

Hi all,

I was was referred to use the Molding Clinic for my lapband, by a relative who recently had her lapband surgery done there. Does anyone know, if they accept insurance?

Thanks,

Yeah, Carmel!!!

Dbrandy, have you tried to contact the Molding Clinic direct? That would be your best source of information.

It may vary by area; however, it took UHC six weeks before I finally received approval for Lap Band. Then it took three months to schedule the surgery in southern CA. I went in for my first consultantion in late September, and finally had surgery on January 31. After two weeks, I've lost 20 lbs!

Hello,

I have UHC. I have not contacted the doctor about the surgery, but done a significant amount of research and seriously thinking about proceeding with the surgery. Do you know if I would have to have a medical condition to have this preformed? I am 5'7 247 lbs.

dbrandy, please check with your benefits coordinator at your job. He/she should be able to give you accurate information of what your UHC does and doesn't cover. Different companies have different health insurance policies with or without restrictions on weight loss surgery. Some only allow specific types of WLS. Your BMI is 37. Best of luck to you!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
