lo.la 12 Posted May 30, 2018 I had Rny about 7 weeks ago and last week at my follow up appointment, they asked me if I was feeling a lot more energetic. I told them that honestly no, I’ve been pretty tired. I have Hashimoto’s, so they did a full blood panel to see if that could be causing the problem or if it was something else. They called me with the results today and it turns out that the issue is actually my blood sugar. It was a 56 when they tested it and that was mid afternoon. I have been feeling dizzy/light-headed some too, but thought I had just gotten up too fast when that happened. They told me to take bites of cracker or another carb like that when my sugar gets too low, but I hate to do that since I’ve been avoiding carbs like the plague. I’m not now, nor have I ever been diabetic and I don’t take any medicines that would affect my blood sugar either. Has anyone else had this happen? Any other suggestions to help keep my sugars up with things we’re allowed to eat?
Losingit2018 1,170 Posted May 31, 2018 Even if you have never had bs issues before WLS, it is common with RNY to have reactive hypoglycemia. I have read many posts on this subject. I know that some RNYers that suffer with it carry the sugar tablets with them. You really need to follow Drs orders with this because it can be quite dangerous if you get to the point that you are fainting. Would not want that to happen while driving, etc. Hopefully someone with more knowledge than I have will come along and add more information here. Good luck to you! Sprinkles1 358 Posted May 31, 2018 I don't understand why keeps avoid carbs so much. Carbs are an important staple in our diets. In moderation. I'd do what the doc says! Hopefully that'll help your energy. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app
