Duodenal switch 8 weeks post op not hungry...ughh

Recommended Posts

It took me a good 2 months to finally have energy back. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to ever get any exercise in, because I couldn't eat too much and didn't have any energy. I finally got my energy back around 2 months, and now at 6 months run 3+ miles 3-4 week, plus do Camp Gladiator (boot camp). I love how much energy I have. Definitely get your hydration and Vitamins in. I did notice that once I really started working out, I was able to eat more than a few bites. I also find that I eat small amounts throughout the day, a handful of peanuts or a piece of cheese, which keeps me energized. You will feel better, I promise, and it will all be worth it!!!

Thank you! and yeah it sucks doesn't it?? shakes.... Ughhhhhh but haven't tried the bipro Water ... ill have to try it out... anything is worth a try! Thank you for your words of encouragement an I am glad I am not alone in feeling this way... .. and yes I have no taste for anything.

Do you get that Water at a Vitamin shop?

You should also try Isopure Protien drink, has quite a few flavors. I prefer the grape and a 20oz bottle has 40 grams of protien. I get half my daily requirement and the taste isn't too bad.

REMINDER: Do not take Iron and Calcium together, even in or with a Multi-Vitamin. The reason is because they impede absorption of the other so if taken together you will not be getting adequate iron or calcium each day and could become anemic and have mineral deficiencies. The correct way to take them is 2-4 hours apart. As well, thyroid medication can also be negatively impacted if taken with iron and calcium.

If sweet Protein Shakes are gross to you right now, consider the Unjury chicken Soup mix. It tastes pretty okay and it’s a very nice break from sweet-sweet shakes. Good luck!

Your tastebuds and what you can tolerate change after surgery. Maybe trying some different foods that you wouldn't normally eat would help make everything more appetizing. You are not alone. There are days when I am not hungry at all and days when I want to eat everything lol I agree with the Protein Water. I know Premier makes a version.

I really like ProtiDiet Water flavorings. It isn’t powder, so no chalky aftertaste. It is more of a gel to mix in your water. I have had a peach mango one almost every day for 4 years. It has 15 grams of Protein. My surgeon sells them pretty cheap but I know they are also on Amazon.

Glad to see I’m not alone, I have no desire for food, and when I think I am I take a bite and it’s a turnoff, thank God for shakes, Premier shakes are a lifesaver at 30grams each, and I bought unflavored Protein Powder and add it to smoothies, for an attempt to get fruits and veggies in, I’m trying to be creative....this too shall pass...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
