I want to find people who are following the program, but may not be losing like they thought they would

I've lost 15 pounds since my surgery on April 25. Others are losing more, but I'm ok as long as I don't gain. Would love for it to come off faster.

Def me. I did well the first month losing about a pound a day. Then nothing, then gained 2. After a week I lost the 2, but nothing since. I asked for advice on another thread and it was suggested that i increase my caloric intake, which I am struggling to do without adding a ton of carbs.

Can I ask what the rationale for increasing calorie intake is?

First and Foremost, no one is going to lose weight like someone else. We are all unique and our bodies will shed fat differently and at different rates. And it's important not to focus strictly on the weight number. There are plenty of days for me where my weight doesn't move or goes up, but my body fat decreases. Take the last 3 days, I hit 260, then climbed to 260.8 and today I'm still 260.8, BUT my body fat had decreased .2%. So if I was looking ONLY at weight, I'd more than likely be getting frustrated because I didn't appear to be making progress, even though the body fat reduction shows that I am indeed still losing.

Now, yes, you need to eat, you **NEED** to be eating 6 times a day and should be getting a decent amount of calories (1200 I believe is the most common target area)

You can add plenty calories and not carbs with ease... it's called Protein.

1 oz of lean beef has 71 calories

1 oz of Salmon has 59 calories

1 oz of chicken breast has 47 calories

1 oz of egg has 44 calories

Not really hard to add a few oz of meat or get some extra Protein Powder here and there throughout the day to up that calorie and protein count without adding a single carb.

And Water. Your body cannot process fat without enough water to do so, this is another reason why we are pushed so heavily towards water, because we need a certain amount to stay hydrated AND we need additional water so our body can use it to break down fat for use.

Since surgery I can’t eat any meat products I immediately vomit them up.. I don’t drink while I eat I chew chew chew, I am not eating fast, and I cut it up small. I vvant even do ground meat or eggs. So my main source of Protein is whey powder and plant protein.

That sucks that you can't tolerate meats... Have you asked your surgical team about it? Are you able to consume other protein heavy foods? Cottage cheese, yogurt, etc?

How's your Water consumption?
Your tag block says you've lost 108 lbs since Dec 27 already, that's pretty epic! Things to factor in, when we get older and thinner the basal metabolic rate slows, meaning the baseline calorie requirement for someone to exist without any added exercise (ie if one slept in bed all day long) lowers. So we have to keep adjusting that calorie target or increasing exercise to combat the reduction in the basal.

Also, muscle mass increases causes increases in daily caloric requirements, so weight lifting for mass can be helpful in fat reduction.

No I have lost 108 since I started the program at my highest a year ago. I have lost 56 since surgery. I have talked and for a month did have a stricture but fixed it and still can’t eat it

Thank you for your comment. This makes absolute perfect sense and some of us need to hear this. I am 1 month post-op having lost 20 lbs since my surgery. My friend who had the same procedure on the same day as me has lost more weight than I have and it kinda bummed me out. Im thinking I'm doing something wrong. Not realizing that our bodies are all different so we won't lose weight uniformly.

My scale is annoying me, but I know (or am pretty sure) that it's because I am (was) really nauseous and not eating enough and not drinking enough. I've since gotten a lot more Protein and Water, still not ENOUGH water but much more than before and my scale barely moves or creeps. BUT I'm NOT gaining and I had my surgery 4/17 and lost 39 since 4/2. Do I want more? Yes. I have to drink more, get my calories probably over 600 and start at least walking.

@Matt Z do you have a body fat measuring scale? I was looking at one that linked to my Fitbit

I have the Aria scale, yes. Love it! Honestly I'd be so damn out of my mind this BS gain/lose rollercoaster if I wasn't continually seeing that body fat number drop.

I'm super frustrated. I lost 20 lbs the first 3 weeks and have been at a stall for the past 2.5 weeks. I lose a pound, gain a pound etc... keeping me between 232 and 234. I get my Water in but it is hard since my doc said to increase it from 64 oz to 89 oz. That's a lot of Fluid in between meals. I seem to have stalled since I introduced soft foods. I seem to only lose when on a liquid diet. I am trying to stay in Ketosis because that does seem to help so no carbs or low carbs. I am also avoiding sugar. I eat eggs, tuna, ground beef, soft chicken, salmon and Protein Shakes.

Now, my doc wants me to increase calories but I don't see how that is going to help. I only lose on the days I go back to liquid.

I'm discouraged that I went thru all this to only lose 20 lbs by straight liquid diet. I could have done that without surgery.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
