Just banded October 31!

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone!

My name is Kara and I'm 21 years old. I was JUST banded October 31st (Halloween!) y Dr. Champion here in Atlanta, Georgia. I wasn't an outpatient- my doc likes his lap band patients to stay in the hospital overnight. I must say that these passed couple of days have been pretty rough on me. Really the only "excruciating" pain that I've had is where the incision was made for the sewing of the port. I knew there would be pain, but I didn't think it would be this bad. I can't move! :cry It's gotten a lot better, and it gets less sore every day. After I get by these rough next couple of weeks, I'll be all set and ready to resume my brand new banded life! I can't wait! :whoo: I'm looking forward to chatting with you all :)

Love,

Kara

Congratulations on your banding, Kara. I will be having surgery with Dr. Steinberg in Decatur and he, too, requires an overnight stay. Join us in the Georgia thread under US Local support group thread.

I was banded on 1 Nov in Sydney and I was in hospital for 2 nights, one in ICU. I woke up feeling the worst pain (never had surgery before) but it improved a few hours after that. Still some pain ther but hoping that it will ease up in the next few days. Good luck to all of us !! :whoo::whoo:

Okay call me crazy but, I was banded on 10-30-07 and I painted my dining room this morning. The more I move the less sore I feel.

Now that is "crazy" !!! :):D I can barely walk and have a quite a bit of pain at one of the cuts. I think I may have pulled a muscle getting in and out of bed at the hospital... hate those hospital beds.

I was also banded 10/31 in Hershey, PA and feeling better everyday--pain meds are great! My biggest problem is that I am very bloated-- I look 9 months pregnant and the pressure makes my wounds sore. How can I get rid of the bloat?:)

Congratulations on getting your brand-new band!

The soreness will subside over the next couple of days. I felt like I had been hit by a truck after surgery. I could barely push myself up off of the couch. I think the anesthesia really made my muscles sore all over my body. After about the fourth day post-surgery I really started feeling better!

The surgeons "blew up" your belly like a balloon during the operation to improve their view, so your abdomen will be swollen. Be sure to get some Gas-X. You might get gas pains that can be quite uncomfortable. Gas-X was my saving grace!

Good luck!

Hello All, I'm brand new to this site. I was banded on 10/25/07. I'm home for two weeks. I spent the first night in the hospital then came home for a day, and was back in the hospital for 3 nights after vomitting all day on my first day home. I came home on 10/30 and have been recovering nicely. I'm moving around as much as I can, but am still very sore and trying to get in all my Protein. I'm glad I found this site. Everyone I talk to had the bypass and I know they are similar, but sometimes it is hard to relate you know.

This is definitely the place to come. There's always someone who can answer any questions you have and give you support if you need it. I'm at Day 6 and on my fluids. Added jelly and light custard today, that was yummy. Still mostly having Protein Drink, clear Soups and Water. Have an appointment with my dieticien next Tuesday so hopefully I can get onto mushies after that. No rush though, my stomach still feels bloated so I guess still going through the healing process. Anyway, good luck.

Hi everyone! I too, am newly banded as of the 1st of November. It is true for me that if I move around more it helps mobility. However, Monday I did too much. OOOO! Two kids will do that to you. I am also bloated and not "going". In fact, as of the other day I gained a couple of pounds which is alarming me. It is hard to tell if because of the liquids and no solids that it is this way or I am drinking too much.

Hi there. I must say I'm feeling extra bloated today but haven't changed much in my diet. I had a very small bowl of jelly with light custard... wonder if that did it? I put on a little of weight when I came home from the hospial but soon took that off. Personally I think it's the swelling & bloating doing it. Sorry to be gross, but had my first BM in 6 days but that didn't ease the bloating.

I've decided to go to the office tomorrow, have been working from home this week. A long drive, a long day... hopefully it won't take too much out of me.

I joined BariatricPal in 2008 & I FINALLY made the descision to have WLS!! I'm so excited & not sure what I need to do to get the ball rolling, but I made an appointment with my PCP for 7/19. It's a start I guess.

I've been dreaming about it for 30 years or so. It's time to make it happen!

I joined yesterday when I was struggling with this preop diet...
It typically comes and goes, the hard times and easier times. I'm on day 6 of 14  shakes, water, sf Popsicles and jello. And I might actually be losing my mind. But, oh dear lord has the fear set in. Not about the surgery itself, but life afterwards. If I feel this crappy on the preop diet, am I going to feel like this forever after?
I know most of the answers are no, not forever. It might be worse after for a while, then get better. I know it's a more of a mental challenge than physical after the first couple weeks of healing. I get all of that. But I'm starting to feel scared about losing myself afterwards.
It might be my hormones or desire to chew something salty talking.. It may go away soon or tomorrow.. I can hope, anyway. But right now.. The fear is real.

And this liquid diet can bite me.

Fear is normal, but if it makes you feel any better, I'm 4.5 months post-op and the pre-op diet was by far the hardest part of the whole process. There will be challenges and a lot of new things to learn, but I can honestly say at this point I feel so much more "back to normal" and was even able to go on a week-long vacation with my kids without stressing over it. It's so worthwhile.

@NickelChip This actually does make me feel better! Thank you so much! After the onslaught of Covid, we've all had to deal with a "new normal", so I know it's possible. It's just the fear and frustration in this moment that makes me question if I can find another "new normal" afterwards. The thought of just a few more months seems daunting some times, but I really do appreciate input and real experience. I'll use that to get me through for a few more hours! LOL. Thank you so much! And I'm glad everything is going so well for you! ❤️

I started my 10 day pre op diet yesterday I need flavor!! I'm not big on the chocolate protein shakes so I just got to use up what I have was thinking about freezing it to make it like a ice cream so its something I can chew a little. Idk this is hard but I know I can do it just need to find new things to try

You can try. I've read other people have had good results with protein-shake popsicles, etc. My personal experience with it? Sucked.

I tried making 'fudgesicles' with a couple different flavors of a premade shake, as well as a protein powder I blended myself and all of them came out revolting? The powder ones, all the protein sunk to the middle; the premade shakes, the popsicle had a disgusting texture and the protein seemed to leave a weird fluffy film on the outside? I couldn't stomach it.

Maybe look into flavoring additives? I was able to have sugar-free coffee /soda syrup flavorings, sugar-free drink flavorings and baking additives like almond, rum or pepperment extract. The extracts helped me the most as they added no extra sweetener.

On the other hand, if you can get your hands on an unflavored/unsweetened protein powder, the syrup flavorings are perfect. I love to use Boost "Just Protein" (which is unflavored) with milk and a Chai-flavored sugarfree syrup.

        Good luck!
