How bad is it that I cheated on liquid pre op diet?

Recommended Posts

You'll be fine. I cheated a bit on my pre-op. Plus, not all pre-ops are the same. There are lots of generic pre-ops, and those tuned to the patient. Mine was super generic, like, the nurse didn't even bother to check anything other than my BMI before prescribing me my pre-op diet. Just do your absolute best to stick to the diet and make sure those slip ups happen as little as possible. Avoid fats and alcohols and you should be doing just fine.

Good Luck!

My surgery is Friday and I had a drinking binge last Saturday plus I ate burger patties because that's all I have left in my fridge Monday. Do you think if I were to just drink liquids for the next three days I should be okay?

If I had to guess... more than likely you'll be fine. Were you told you had a fatty liver or other issues going into the pre-sugical diet? Which surgery are you going in for?

Well burgers are Protein that's a plus, but animal flesh usually has fat, that's a minus. My opinion is a well- seasoned female individual: Trust you haven't boogered everything up, it would have better if you had resisted the burgers whisperings, yeah they said "Eat us, we're all you've got and nobody will ever know" well you, know and you were bigger than them. Do I do perfect myself? Nope,i just, brought,in a plate with Peanut Butter graham crackers and a bottle of,protein shake. Guess which one I reached for? Now I could say since I don't have a EDS it's okay, maybe but probably not in the long run. But,I'm not going to beat myself up over it, it is what it is and we just move on. To sin once is human, it's when you persist that it's devilish. Samuel Johnson, a contemporary of Shakespeare? said: "Clear your mind of can't" so,move on, don't do it anymore and pray your surgeon doesn't test for burger breath , cause if he does your little tugboat just sunk!🚢

Actually I was not told I had a fatty liver because for two months before I was on a low-carb diet. I was actually losing weight and everything look great even with my blood work. I've had some extra stress this past 2 weeks weeks. Just sent me over the edge. And as far as the surgery it's a gastric sleeve surgery. I spoke to my nutritionist this morning and she said just to continue on the eating plan and she would find out what the doctor what's next. I'm just wondering if fasting for the next three days would do it

I would go the liquids , don't fast and starve, you want your strength for the stress of surgery, don't turn yourself weak and light-headed. And UPDATE us when the deed is done and you, feel good enough to do it📝

So the alcohol and fatty meats aren't a great thing if you've got a fatty liver, but, more than likely you didn't cause enough damage/increase in those 2 occasions to cause any real issues with surgery. Most certainly stick to your liquids for the next 3 days and I'm sure things will be just fine.

Just remember, afterwards for the best outcome, you should try to find other, non-food/alcohol methods for stress relief.

Just stay focused, You got this!

The alcohol is a much bigger deal than the burger, as that goes straight to the liver, which is what they are trying to improve prior to surgery (for those surgeons who care about such things and impose these diets.) Bigger concern is whether this is an indicator that one can stay away from the alcohol long enough to get through the weight loss period without damaging the liver more than the rapid weight loss is already doing, or doing the addiction transfer thing and dropping into full blown alcoholism.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
