Did your doctor use staples or stitches to close you up & how many openings did he make?

I have 7 openings including the one from the drain and he used staples!

I’m not to happy about that! I have had 5 surgeries in my abdominal region & have never been closed with staples!

Toodles,
Rue

Neither. Just steri strips..which I loved, cause I tend to have tissue reactions to both stitches and sutures. I'm sure I had subcutaneous stitches, But the outside skin just had steri strips. Worked great.

I had dermabond, no outer stitches either. It was great up until my allergic reaction that caused dermatitis across my entire torso 😭

Dermabond, too. Fortunately, I wasn't allergic to it. I was allergic to the tape they used to cover my central line.

I'm allergic to tape AND Dermabond, so staples or sutures please . I'm no longer vain, although it would be nice to be someday to be like a little, kid and flash everybody. With my gnarley, criss crosses of 3 nine pound pregnancies stretch marks, they will either be lost,in the landscape or become,an Oh Well. Besides people might pay to see pictures of a train wreck but my belly--- well maybe a bored yawn?😮

My hubby had his gall bladder out a few months before my surgery. We're thinking of flashing our tummies to the grandkids (when we have some) and telling them that we were involved in a shoot-out with the mob!

Might be a nice change from the "In my day we did blah blah blah", I used to hate when my older relatives did that. Well what goes around comes around, the" I won the Second. World War single-handly" have been replaced by " Let me tell you about Flower Power, the Viet Nam War and the Day Kennedy Died" and whole new generation will be bored stiff or yawn behind their hands. And a recounting of all your pain and sorrows with Bariatric Surgery will scare them skinny. Think,of it as your gift to the future generations😜LOL, my friends!!!

I had internal stitches. I have had many abdominal surgeries and I prefer staples to any glue, stitches or strips.

My incisions with staples has been the only ones where I don’t break out or have malformed skin after the fact. It could be the surgeon or whomever stitches me but yea

I've also had great success with staples in the past

Neither.. I had 4 very small incisions which i originally thought were 3 because one was hiding inside my belly button. They are very small and I have glue to close them up. Tomorrow it’ll be 7 days for me and I can say that I’m almost completely healed. Incisions look great, no pain and there was NO drain tube required.

I had internal stitches and dermabond on the outside. I did get a little rash from the dermabond but nothing major. I got 7 incisions too, but 4 of them were like pin prick s and are barely visible 4 weeks out

Staples sound horrible for the stomach area and quite unusual! Hope they don't hurt! 😞

I had staples. The patch (for lack of a better word) that covered each of my 5 incisions was itchy at times, but I didn't have any issues with the staples themselves :P

Not at all. They're very common. My C-section incision was zipped up with staples 20 years ago. My dogs and cats neuter/spay incisions were zipped up with staples. I'm sure it varies, but on my skin, staples have left less of a scar than stitches.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
