Hard time getting to solid diet

I'm 7 weeks post-op and can't seem to get to solid food. Still on shakes and sometimes can't get more than one shake down. That's only 25 grams Protein. Everytime I try a food (pureed) it hurts my pouch. Is this normal?

From what I’ve been reading everyone is different. I’d call your team and check in with your doctor for peace of mind and to make sure everything is ok.

No, it’s not normal. You should be able to eat by seven weeks.

You should contact your team and let them know you are having problems.

I couldn't each much of anything until month 4, without throwing up. Take advantage of the time when you can't, you lose weight much faster. Now that I can eat more, my weight loss has slowed way down. Those months when I couldn't eat really helped me to mentally get used to eating way less.

I'm 3 months out and have just started tolerating solids. I still get almost all my nutrition from yogurt and Protein Water. Try the protein water, it is easier than shakes, imho. Do check with your doctor. Mine wasn't worried at 6 weeks, but he did send me for additional testing at 11 weeks. But as @Pearldrop says, we're all different and some of us heal more slowly. And I agree with @shelly420, this is a great opportunity for weight loss if your protein intake improves. Hope all goes well.

I’m sorry but this could be dangerous advice to give to someone. At seven weeks post op, my diet progression from my surgeon said that I should be able to eat salads, cooked vegetables, ground meats, well chewed pieces of soft meat, Cereal, etc...

Original poster is stating they are in pain just trying to eat some purée food, which most of us start post op at three to four weeks. There is a difference between wanting to lose weight quickly and encouraging someone to put their health and life at risk.

Original poster could have symptoms of ulcer or structure. Please get checked out original poster to make sure you are ok.

The transition to solid foods can be a rough one. I found that softer foods (such as chili and soups) went down much easier than harder foods (such as steak and chicken). As a result, I relied on these. I have included a few recipes at the end of the following article.

So where is your medical degree? Please post a pic of it. I am entitled to post my opinions & experience, just as you are.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
