Hello. I’m a post-gastric sleeve from March 1, 2016. I was 325 at my highest and 189 at my lowest. Even had 7lbs I’d excess apron skin and fat cut off. I’ve gained about 40lbs back and am getting scared. It’s my Surgeons advice that I do a reset, a liquid diet for two weeks and follow the original post-op plan starting with puréed foods.

Doing the reset doesn’t bother me and I know it’ll force me out of some addictions I’ve developed... but I cannot stand drinking plain water! It’s been over two years now and I don’t remember if crystal light or V8 was allowed on the original plan or not... and can’t get a hold of the surgeons office or the nutritionist to ask either. Help???

Crystal light is a fairly typical recommendation and is generally benign, if one doesn't mind artificial sweeteners. V8, particularly the low sodium variety, is great if you need to do liquids and want to maintain some semblance of nutrition in the diet.

I'm not a fan of liquid diets for reset or back on track as they don't really get to the meat of the problem (so to speak) and often have a lot of artificial sweeteners that emulate the sugars and junk carbs that one is trying to eliminate. I find that basic meat and green veg does the job better as that provides most of what one needs nutritionally and satisfies hunger so that one can wean off the junk that has crept back in.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
