SydneySleever 104 Posted May 26, 2018 Had my sleeve done two days ago. Finished up two nights in hospital and have been discharged. Learnt that I have diabetes and being sent home with insulin. Lots to take in and get my head around. I can drink quite a bit of Water but still feel so thirsty with a dry mouth. Looking forward to seeing what the coming days and weeks bring. 2 Frustr8 and Creekimp13 reacted to this
Creekimp13 5,840 Posted May 26, 2018 Glad you're headed home:) The diabetes could resolve with your new diet. Follow all your instructions and try not to be overwhelmed...you're on the right track and things should get better before long. Wishing you a quick recovery and great results:) 4 Hannah83, domi, SydneySleever and 1 other reacted to this
Hop_Scotch 1,633 Posted May 26, 2018 (edited) Hope all goes well for you! The diabetes wasn't tested for before surgery as part of the assessment for surgery? Edited May 26, 2018 by 2shea 1 1 Frustr8 and SydneySleever reacted to this

KJS55 5 Posted May 27, 2018 "I had bloods done before but they were thinking insulin resistance. Then my bloods went all over the place in hospital!" That's odd that they sent you home with insulin. Prior to my surgery I was pre-diabetic (insulin resistance). In the hospital, my sugar levels were all over the map. But, the hospital I was at, called the endocrinologist I have been seeing for two years. He decision was not only, no insulin, but I was to stop taking my Metformin. My levels will be checked at my PC's office and the post surgery follow up, two weeks post-op. I agree with the others here that you should follow your doctors advice and diet, and I think once your body get's used to this new diet your levles should calm down. 1 Hannah83 reacted to this

Exactly what happened to me with bloods in the hospital. The nurses went crazy and the endocrinologist had them checking my blood sugars every 6 hours. They send in another doctor to take blood from my artery as opposed to the vien to do other tests. Fingers crossed I’ll be off the insulin soon!
SIPS in Seattle 345 Posted May 28, 2018 Did you by chance have a scopolamine patch? That gives you wicked dry mouth.
domi 237 Posted May 28, 2018 It is normal for blood sugars to be all over the map with surgery. I required insulin in the hospital. (I never had it before surgery.) A week later I was off everything. Best of luck to you. Remember to watch your sugar intake. Read labels.
