girliswinning 1 Posted May 25, 2018 Hi guys! I’m interested to hear from post op guys as to recovery times. I know the recommended is 2 weeks but I have a very sedentary office job- did anyone go back after 1 week and how do you feel 1 week post op?? Are you in pain or really tired? Thanks team! Matt Z 4,139 Posted May 25, 2018 Everyone will be different, and the sleeve is less of a punch to the system, but 2 weeks seems a little early even still. At 2 weeks you might still be on pain narcotics. You will certainly still have incision site pain, some folks are still getting blood thinners up to the 2 week mark, so there are a few factors that come into play. If you can't take the time off, that's understandable, but the longer you can rest and recover, without any stresses of having to go to work... will be beneficial. girliswinning 1 Posted May 25, 2018 Well advised.. I think I should re-think things! Thanks! 1 Matt Z reacted to this
Jdesmond73 138 Posted May 25, 2018 I was sleeved on 12/18 and in a client’s office on 12/27. I had no pain at that point but did feel rather week. If I could go back, I would have taken a full two weeks off. 1 girliswinning reacted to this
YeahOkay31 651 Posted May 25, 2018 I was sleeved on Friday 4/27 and returned to work Tuesday 5/8. I have a desk job. I had moments of fatigue and it is hard to be around people eating whatever they want (my family was much more considerate), but all and all I was fine. My surgeon was unconcerned as well, even after I told him a walk a mile to work from the train station. You just need to listen to your body. 1 girliswinning reacted to this
sillykitty 10,776 Posted May 25, 2018 Everyone is different. But I had a very easy recovery. I work from home, so I technically took no time off. I wasn't on any pain meds after the second day. I was able to work, emails, conference call etc., immediately. I was driving by the third day. No issues with doing laundry, light housework, fixing meals. If I had a sedentary desk job then 1 week would have been more than enough for me. 2 SydneySleever and girliswinning reacted to this

I took 6 weeks off, but I also had to recover from getting shingles during my hospital stay. Everyone thinks they can go back after a few weeks if they have a desk job, but its easy to forget that blood clots, pulmonary embolisms are one of the most common post surgical complications. If you do go back to a sedentary job, make sure you are up walking every hour for at least 10 mins for the first 6 weeks. The risk doesn't go away once you stop the blood thinners. 1 girliswinning reacted to this
Meggs11 32 Posted May 25, 2018 I plan to be off for one week, then go back to half days for the second week, then full days the third week. I have a desk job as well, but my desk goes from sitting to standing so I am glad I have that option. I have talked to a couple people who have had the same surgery as me all who went back to work after one week and they said the only issue is your tired. But heck, I am obese right now and have two little kids who don't sleep through the night so I am used to be tired. 2 TakingABreak and girliswinning reacted to this
FancyChristine15 810 Posted May 25, 2018 I had plans to go back after 1 week, but that didn't work out, because, sadly, my grandmother passed away 6 days after my surgery. I think I could have gone back. I also have a sedentary office job. I ended up helping clean up her house and pack some things; I was careful, of course. I think you'll be okay. I ended up going back 2 weeks after the surgery, and I was fine. 1 girliswinning reacted to this

Pearldrop 164 Posted May 26, 2018 I am planning on going back after 2 weeks. My surgeon has told me I’ll spend 5 days in hospital and then go home. I’ll see how I feel at the end of the 2 weeks. I can either return to work, work from home or take another week off. I’m lucky I have a flexible work place and a job that can be done from home.
StephWill78 2 Posted May 27, 2018 (edited) I had surgery on a Tuesday left the hospital on Thursday and went back to work on Friday. I was really tired after that first day but really feel that getting back to normal has really helped my recovery. I am now 12 days post op and feeling great! I get tired more quickly than normal but feeling fantastic otherwise. Edited May 27, 2018 by StephWill78
acuttita 49 Posted May 28, 2018 I had my surgery done on a Thursday and went back to work on a Tuesday but only half a day because i was tired. I ended up taking the rest of the week off due to getting an infection but then i went back the following week but was only doing half days until my energy level came back up. Thankfully I’m able to work from home if need be
