But I have to. Is there a stool softener that is not a gel pill? I am 2 weeks out today and since I take my Vitamins I have very hard stool from the Iron. I am still crashing my other Puls so I can’t take the gel once. Went to CVS and Walgreens and could only see stool softener in form of gel pils.

They should have a liquid form of the docusate sodium (Colace). You may have to ask the pharmacy staff where they keep it.

It’s a laxative I think inside of a stool softener but milk of magnesia did wonders for me. Very effective at moving things out :P

Is milk of magnesia something similar to Miralax? I am taking that and it does not really help.

It’s much stronger and faster acting in my opinion. I had relief within an hour.

My surgeon sent me home with Miralax...no abdominal cramping and it works with a few hours. What I did was increase my Fluid intake and now I d rely on Miralax. What a difference drinking Water makes in the poop pool game.

I’m learning that Calm Stomach Tea by Bigelow helps with Constipation. It has Peach, Ginger, Marshmallow Root and Peppermint in it and works within minutes. I am almost 5 weeks out and this has been working for me better as well as faster than the stool softeners.

Sennokot, though it might take a few days to take effect. If you need something that will take effect immediately, you need a suppository.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
