Hey all! Wondering if anyone has found a good unflavored Protein. Starting full liquids and would like something to put in my Soups. Also, how much Soup are you using per scoop? Kinda tired of the sweet shakes....

I'm drinking some Isopure Unflavored Protein blended with frozen mango, carrot, banana, strawberry and kale right now. Can't state the protein at all. The biggest thing to watch for with adding protein to Soup is to make sure it's not too hot, protein will coagulate when it gets too hot.

Quest unflavored is my jam.

GENEPRO is quite controversial. Do your homework and make an informed choice before trying it.

My nut and my surgeon both recommended GENEPRO. It’s the only thing I’ve been able to tolerate. I really like it and have had no problems with it.

I use Unjury plain Protein in everything. I bought the starter pack that comes with a shaker bottle and a thermometer.

I also use the Unjury, but I’m considering the GENEPRO. I’ve seen labs that have been drawn that were GENEPRO vs regular and the GENEPRO labs actually did have more Protein in the blood than the others. Not a drastic amount, but every little bit counts. My advice is to do your own research before you don’t consider GENEPRO at all. There are a lot of independent studies out there.

Yeah, here is my favorite:

https://www.pacermonitor.com/public/case/19892822/SI03,_Inc_v_Musclegen_Research,_Inc

It is crap and was successfully sued for false claims of "medical grade protein" and the claimed 30 grams of Protein. It is actually been proven in court that it is only 11 grams.

11 grams in the small scoop is still impressive, especially when it mixes better than anything else I’ve seen and the reviews have labeled it completely flavorless (except for some people suffering from synesthesia).
I don’t understand why so many people have such a big deal about this. It’s not harmful in any way. Plenty of NUTs recommend it. If you’re struggling with getting in the shake version of Protein, like I am, and the RTD’s are gross (which I think they are) GENEPRO could be for you. It seems to mix well with anything from Water to Mac and cheese from the videos I’ve seen.
It would be one thing if you’re trying to cram as much protein as possible into one small dose, but that’s not what the selling point is to me. Also, like I said, the independent studies done show that there is protein in it.
All Protein Powder can be sketchy anyway, which is why most doctors want patients to wean off it and use food instead. They include ingredients that are not protein and try to say they count towards protein.
I’m not looking for a fight, but if you’re looking for a flavorless protein powder, this seems to be the best. If you’re just trying to cram a bunch of protein in with one dose, then you’re looking for something different. Since the OP didn’t mention wanting to get a huge amount of protein and just that they wanted a truly flavorless powder, I suggested the GENEPRO.

These are the blood draws that show you can still meet your Protein goals on GENEPRO.

And this shows just how many protein brands add other ingredients and claim them as protein.

I guess nothing can be easy for us WLS patients huh? 🤷‍♀️

A. That study was done by and paid for by the company that manufactures GENEPRO. We call that if the industry a conflict of interest.

B. Serum (blood) levels of protein do not show that dietary protein is adequate. There is no blood test that shows that. Protein in the blood is a measure of liver and kidney function.

That’s frightening considering blood Protein measures a problem with the liver or kidneys not adequate dietary protein.

You don’t want protein to be high in the blood.

Please send any links to independent studies. The one linked up thread was paid for by the manufacturers of Genepro.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
