Finally a cure to my tiredness

Recommended Posts

My recovery was going great until week three when I hit a wall of nausea and utter exhaustion.

My blood sugar was so low! I have to do a 75/25 apple juice daily now. It's made a world of difference. I feel like myself again.

I put the apple juice, Water and ice into the ninja until it's done like a Sonic slush and snack on that. I'm a whole new person ready to conquer this vsg!

How did you know it was blood sugar?

My surgeon's office suggested it as a possible sign. I used a diabetic friend's glucose meter.
I immediately felt night & day difference after I had juice.

Now I'm trying to think if I know anyone who's diabetic! I have been so exhausted and nauseous. Like you said, hit the wall. Thanks for the info. Glad you're feeling better!

I'd you don't have a glucose meter available, you might try the juice and just see how you feel.
Before I was struggling getting through a day of doing nothing but trying to stay hydrated. Now I'm ready to hydrate, work on Protein, and get some treadmill time for steps. It's that big of a difference!

It's worth a try. So, what is "75/25 apple juice"? And how much do you drink?

3/4 cup all natural apple juice + 1/4 cup Water. 8 oz total.

OK, thanks!

Another option might be low Vitamin B12 levels. I was feeling exhausted, and I received a shot, and felt 100% better by the next day.

I've been taking sl B12 qd since day 7.
I do think they help overall but not like the apple juice did for my blood sugar.

Just as a point to show the crazy variability in this process i had the exact opposite post op reaction.

I was scary hyper for months after my surgery. It was between months 4-5 i guess before i started to feel what i considered normal energy levels. Pacing around bouncing off the walls, going to the gym 2 times a day 7 days a week and my poor wife just looking at me like i some crazy guy that broke into the house.

While it might seem like a great thing i didnt like the no OFF feeling i had.

That's crazy too. But I get it. I'm just happy to be back to feeling "me".

Let me tell you a side story. My son when we were in ER,was having weird, blood sugar, readings. Although I am not diabetic , both my parents wete, strong history on my father's side as well as on my,late husband(surprise a type II diabetic) mothers side. Okay says PCP he may be starting into the "family curse" we'll monitor him for awhile so I marched out and got supplies just in case. But things smoothed out, okay I say to myself since, they were not opened let's return them to the store. Surprise! Even if nothing was opened, original seals all in place, WallyWorld will not accept them in returns. So they're laying on an end table in my house in all their glory, All $17.38 of them, should have heard a cha'ching, as my money disappeared into their coffers.😪

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
