Is it bad that I just don’t want to try losing weight again?

Recommended Posts

From 2010-2011 I lost 60lb.

From 2011-2012 I gained 60lb.

From 2012-2016 I lost 60lb and hit my lowest weight of 139lb.

From 2016-present I gained 90lb. At highest weight of 227lb.

I just don’t want to try and do it again 😭 I am physically exhausted all the time. I am depressed and food is the only thing that makes me happy. I just want the surgery to kill my cravings and help jumpstart my lifestyle change, which I never succeeded in doing.

Did anyone else feel the same before surgery? I just need this tool because I’m tired of losing and gaining!

This surgery will not solve the issues I have bolded above. It will not fix your head. It will shrink your stomach capacity, but you can certainly sabotage that by overeating, eating too frequently and eating poorly. And the surgery definitely WILL NOT kill your cravings.

IMO, you're going about this backwards. You have to be ready to make this lifestyle change, and the surgery is a tool that can help you with that, not vice versa.

please ask your surgeons office for a referral to a councilor for help with depression.

This surgery can help start you on the way to new life but post op is 95% mental and you can wreck it easy if you cant get there mentally.

And as for your first question. Yes it is alright that you don't want to do the yo-yo again. The up and down of the weight is every bit as bad for you as staying heavy.

The depression you have referred to is the real issue. If you get control of that then this surgery can lead to a great outcome.

good luck

I too am a yo yo dieter. Losing x amount of weight only to regain it and then some. My reason for WLS was for my health since I had many co morbidities. I lost 60lbs and my diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea and other diseases are gone or are very manageable. I recently went on a vacation at a place I go to often. Around my hotel is a place that makes a particular pastry which I can only get there. Day one I bought one just to savor it, eat it and put it behind me. Unfortunately, I ate one each and every day that I was on vacation. My rationalization was, I can't get these at home and I'm on vacation so I am allowed to eat them. I was wrong, I knew I was wrong but I did not stop myself from eating them.

Upon my return I sought a therapist who specializes in abnormal behaviors.(I couldn't find one that specializes in bariatric patients) I soon realized that I have a problem with food. I am a compulsive eater and WLS alone would not cure me. My therapist also suggested that I join Overeaters Anonymous (OA) I have a great sponsor who speaks to me each day and I go to meetings which gives me support. For me, WLS was only a jump start to weight loss. If I did nothing else I would have gained back the weight over time because as SillyKity said "It will not fix your head."

I am really beginning to see that the WLS was only the beginning of my getting healthier it wasn't the end. I have a lot more work ahead of me and I'm glad that I realized that I had a problem and there are avenues to help me correct or at least work around it. I've learned a lot about myself and why I have the relationship I do with food. I still need to find out more though. Please don't think that WLS will solve all of your weight related problems, it looks as if you might need to look for a support system to help you succeed. Good luck and remember you are not alone.

I was referred to a book by my psychologist. “Ending Emotional Eating” you can get it at Amazon. It’s really helping. Please give it a read and let me know your thoughts. I can use some support with being held hostage by food too

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
