4 week post op major gas

Recommended Posts

I’m 4 weeks post op and everything is going great except I can’t live with this gas. It’s almost constant, I walk about 10K steps a day sometimes more, I don’t eat gassy foods. It settles mostly in my back and shoulders. When it’s bad I’m burping but it only releaves me for a moment. I just started a probiotic to see if that helps. Anyone else have this issue? Any suggestions?

My doctor told me to stop dairy intake if I get too gassy. But for you to be feeling it in your back and shoulders...I'd call the doctor.

Have you tried stretching and breathing exercises on waking up each day?

It might help.

I have, thanks though. Been drinking mint too as well as ginger which does help a little but not for long 😩

Desert girl, thanks I have my follow up Monday. Haven’t been doing much dairy, mostly chicken salad to be honest. My Protein Shakes are lemon ice tea (which are amazing btw)

Lemon ice tea? I'm assuming it's ice tea with unflavored Protein Powder?

No it’s a Protein powder by Nector lemon ice tea flavor

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
