41.5 BMI but no health problems.....

Recommended Posts

I am not sure if I should get the surgery because I have no other health problems. I would feel better if I did because I could tell myself that I am taking a risk to reduce my health problems, but I have none! What if I am making the wrong decision by getting surgery? I am so stressed and don’t want to die :(

Anyone else just obese and that’s it before surgery?

I didn't have any other health problems either. And that's why I had the surgery now. With a BMI of 42, eventually I was going to get health problems or joint problems or a myriad of other problems. As it is, I was getting close to not being able to play netball anymore because I get too puffed out. And as much as I tried, I couldn't lose the weight all on my own.

I decided to be proactive and try to get to a healthy weight before I did have problems.

No health problems for me either, just fat.

Why wait for health problems? Why waste time being big?

I felt bad for some of the people that were going through the process the same time as me (people I met at the surgeon's office). Thier health problems made everything more difficult.

Same here .... and I agree with all of this.

BTW ... no one wants to die. We all had this surgery to live a longer healthier life, no matter then current status of our health.

I concur with all the other posters in response to the OP.

Don't wait. Don't delay.

Intervene to protect yourself.

My BMI is down from 60+ to where you are now, @jultrim18 ... cut yourself off from risk.

My gastric sleeve surgery seven months ago has empowered me to improve MOST aspects of my life.

As you age, I’ve found the extra weight becomes more of an issue. My glucose keeps creeping up to the pre-diabetic zone, joint issues may soon become a problem, its harder to lose weight/easier to gain more and harder to get back into shape if I stop working out consistently.

That’s why I’m doing this now before I start to experience future health issues as a result of the excess weight.

My thoughts were the same, however, as my first confession 6 months later "I was so wrong!", as most of us will express. Although I have received multiple surgeries since I was sleeved, arthroscopic right knee (excessive weight), multiple back injections and burning of my nerves (excessive weight) and my latest gallbladder removal (because of the rapid weight loss). On the other hand today I am almost 100lbs lighter in only 7 months and no longer taking medications to control high blood pressure and cholesterol and exercise regularly and have enormous amounts of energy because this surgery resets your body's metabolism (FACT). You ask the right questions because you must fully commit to this lifestyle change and not go in it with only your toes in the Water and time may not be on your side as you may think. Now all those surgeries may sound like allot, however, I was on my way to heart issues and diabetes eventually (FACT) and whatever health issue, recognizing this was important and it prompted me to take corrective action NOW! because we all only have one life to live. Best of luck to you and I hope our thoughts help you in making your decision.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
