Sherrie_Legz 1 Posted May 18, 2018 Having Gastric Bypass on June 8th. Final pre-op appointment with the surgeon on May 29th. Having blood work done that day. Anybody done this? If so, what labs did they do?? I’m just curious and of course any little thing makes me nervous. Thanks!!!

Matt Z 4,139 Posted June 1, 2018 For my pre-op blood work they did the following tests which totaled 56 results: Iron AND TOTAL IRON BINDING CAPACITY, COMPREHENSIVE METABOLIC PANEL, CBC (INCLUDES DIFF/PLT), C-REACTIVE Protein, HS CRP, HEMOGLOBIN A1c, HOMOCYSTEINE, FERRITIN, FOLATE, RBC, T4, FREE, TSH, Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, 25-OH,TOTAL,IA, HELICOBACTER PYLORI, UREA BREATH TEST, VITAMIN B1 (THIAMINE), BLOOD, LC/MS/MS, NICOTINE AND COTININE, LC/MS/MS, SERUM/PLASMA It's just to make sure they have your full baseline to compare with post-op and follow up, and to make sure you aren't already deficient in anything or have any bacteria or issues that would cause complications during surgery. Totally normal stuff! 2 1 Matt Z, Sherrie_Legz and Frustr8 reacted to this
Oceanlove 98 Posted June 7, 2018 Yikes I’m worried about that. I know my A1C is going to be high. My Vitamin D low. Im hoping that won’t cancel my surgery. Anyone come back with not optimal numbers and still had surgery?

Anyone come back with not optimal numbers and still had surgery? More than likely you'll be fine. My D was low (It's reported that the majority of people have low Vitamin D levels) And since WLS lowers A1C, I don't see that as a stopping point either. My Homocysteine was high, My D was low, Everything else was "in range", Wasn't even an issue with my surgery.
