I had to do a 4 week Optifast diet before surgery. The worst part was the first 4 days. It got a little easier after that. Try and drink as much liquid as you can hold. It helps.

Good luck and hang in there!

I am on day 4 of mine now. Based on everything I have seen and heard, I expected it to be hell. Maybe going in expecting the worst helped me, but I feel pretty okay. The first two days were challenging because I felt like I was getting the flu. I slept about 10 hours the second night and that really helped. I feel fairly normal now, just weak.

I started incorporating shakes before the pre op diet to get used to them as Meal Replacements so the physical hunger is not really getting to me. The mental struggle is SUPER real though. I feel like all I do is think about food and how I can't have it right now. I have found myself almost heading towards grabbing a snack or a bite of something and freak out. I am realizing how much of a habit food has become. Hopefully my new normal sinks in soon, because this is frustrating.

It really hard especially making food for my family and me not being able to eat it I don’t mind the shakes but it just my stomach and my mind telling me I need and want solid food lol I feel sick to my stomach I hope this goes away .

I started my pre-op diet on May 11th, for some reason my doctor wants me to do it for 3 weeks! I'm one week in, some days I feel like I can change the world, other days I don't have it in me to change my clothes. It's made me very aware of how often I turn to food for everything; when I'm REALLY wanting to just say eff it all I start to go into mild panic attacks thinking of how I may never get to eat my favorite ice cream again, then I feel embarrassed for feeling such attachment to food. In order to cope with all of my emotions I have to keep busy, do the dishes, fold the infinite pile of laundry; I recently started trying to garden, right now it's just digging up weeds but getting dirty and sweaty and feeling sore the next day really feels good, like I really DID something. I'm a lot of things but strong-willed has never been one of them, its been hard but my advice to anyone for what it's worth is to just keep busy, don't give your mind a chance to wander on its own and start thinking of all the things that are triggers for us.

Thank you I will definitely try to stay busy keep my mind off food and in the long run I got to think this is worth it I can’t wait to have my surgery it just 10 more days away.

My surgery is tomorrow and I’m so hungry.. I decided today I’ll have as many Protein Shakes as I need to not be hungry. I’m only supposed to have 5 but I may need another 2. My cravings are also out of control, I’m dying for pizza with pepperoni and cheesy fries with wings and a cold soda with ice.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
