Gendy 27 Posted May 17, 2018 I am a little over 3 years post op from Gastric Sleeve. Around the 3 year mark, I started getting severe heartburn, and nothing is helping. I was on 80 mg of Nexium a day and it barely made a dent in the heartburn, but I had sever side effects. I'm now being told by a Gastroenterologist it's because of the sleeve and my only option is to get a Roux-en-y. Has anyone else heard of this? 1 ProudGrammy reacted to this
Losingit2018 1,170 Posted May 17, 2018 Yes. There are actually quite a few reports of people that end up getting GERD after sleeve. One of the only options is to revise to a bypass. 1 1 ProudGrammy and Orchids&Dragons reacted to this
Newme17 3,444 Posted May 17, 2018 (edited) Did you not have any reflux up until the 3 rd year mark? Did you take PPI’s that whole time too? What kinds of foods do you eat? Edited May 17, 2018 by Newme17
Gendy 27 Posted May 18, 2018 I have been on a PPI since the sleeve and tried to go off of it several times, but always got heartburn. But that was nothing like it is now. It's so bad now I feel like my chest is on fire. I eat very bland foods and do not drink any carbonation. They tried to do a PH test on me, but I couldn't swallow the tube. Now I have to have a sensor attached to my esophagus to test the acid. I'm having bad side effects to the high doses of PPI, so they say if the PH is too high then my only choice is to suffer of get the Roux-en-y. I'm not looking forward to either.
