Hey guys!!! I had my surgery on April 25th, exactly 3 weeks ago from today 05/16/2018. I'm currently in the puree stage of my diet which some things I just can't puree without gagging so I chew until it is liquid and always only eat soft foods.

I have lost a total of 7 lbs within those 3 weeks.

Week 1----210

Week 2----206

Week 3----203

I am exactly 5 feet tall and started at 235 which I lost 25lbs before surgery.

I just feel like I am losing incredibly slow. 2.3 lbs just does not seem like enough to me.

Is this normal? I feel helpless and depressed not knowing what I am doing wrong.

I know that I am having a difficult time getting fluids and Protein in however I am exercising like crazy (cardio until I'm cleared for strength). My calories rarely go over 700 if not 400 and I know a lot of people are going to mention starvation mode.

We're already pretty much in starvation mode with the 2 week liquid diet so I'm not sure it is that because everyone else I read on here has lost 15+ lbs within this time frame on a liquid diet and low calorie intake in the beginning.

I could really use some advice or at least someone who has a similar journey so I can not feel so alone. Also successes would be nice to hear in case there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Mitchjoann, I understand your frustration, but be kind to yourself and stop worrying. We're all different. Since you're starting out in a much better place than many of the rest of us (Believe me, you did not want to start at 272!) you may lose slower. Or it may kick into high gear when you transition to more solids. Or once all the swelling goes away (can take over a month). We've all got our different bodies and metabolisms and we just have to ride it out. You're so petite - taller people have more muscle mass and that burns more calories. But you'll look way cuter when you get to goal ;)

You've lost 32 pounds and the scale is still going down - Celebrate! You have released 14% of your total body weight already!

For me, it has been a roller coaster. I lose slow some weeks, and fast or a lot in other weeks, and back to slow again. However, one thing I have not had in the entire three months is a stall! I have been losing every single week so far.

If I have a stall, I already know that it comes with the territory, but I'm very satisfied with the scale moving in the right direction whether slow or fast. I think we have to have that mindset or we'll drive ourselves nuts.

You're progressing nicely.

Orchids&Dragons Thank you so much! I didn't even consider the percentage of my body weight that I have lost. I'm hoping that my metabolism kicks in. I'm really scared right now. I'm measuring all of my food and just going to keep following the rules and hope that my weight loss progresses. I've read a lot on focusing on how my clothes fit. I've gotten a lot of comments from my coworkers that my scrubs are getting baggy and advice on where I can get them taken in. This was a great feeling. At 235 they were so tight. I'm hoping that I'm down at least a size.

deltagirl93 It is so nice to see that this is normal. And you're right, any weight loss is a weight loss.

You're doing great! I actually started to lose more when I started increasing my protein/food intake. My bypass was 4/23. I'm done with pureed and now on soft foods!

Thank you, I'm so scared of overeating and not being full. Solid foods are terrifying to me right now. I don't want to stretch my pouch out within a month. Right now I feel like liquids do not fill me up and pureed is a little better.

You're right. Liquids don't fill you up, they just basically slide right through.

I have this same issue. My surgery was 4/18. I started my journey at 273 and was 242 on surgery date. As of today I am 227. At 4 weeks post op I thought I would have lost more than 15 lbs since surgery. However, my clothes were getting too big and I went shopping. I am down 2 sizes in my tops and 1 size in my pants. I am doing cardio 3-4 times a week also. I was a slave to the scale for the first 3 weeks and it was discouraging. It seems a lot of us have these issues.
I am also very scared of overeating and stretching my pouch.

You are doing great! This is a journey and journeys take time as my hubby says!

I lost 24 lbs in the pre op diet (if I recall correctly) and I had a stall after the first week of surgery that lasted almost a week. Basically, I had the 3 week stall early. Our bodies are trying to process the trauma, compounded with eating substantially less than it's used to. I wouldn't worry about your loss as being slow. You are on the lower weight side, and people with lower BMIs tend to loose slower. But not to worry, they average the same loss in the end. Remember is not about how fast you run the race, but rather that you cross the finish line!

Do you log and monitor what you eat? I use MyFitnessPal app. I can create custom foods, meals, is their database, or barcode scanner meals and change portions, monitor Water intake in cups, liters or even ounces.

As long as you are getting the right ration of nutrients (proteins very very important) and enough Proteins and your total calorie are where your nutritionist suggests (guessing 600-700), you will be loosing fat.

Water is more important than Protein. Eating schedule for sipping and time between meals can be hard, but choose water over protein. You need water to process the fat. Get your 64+ ounces everyday.

Hi there! I'm 6 months out and I can confirm I had similar concerns when I was a few weeks out from surgery. It gets better once you switch to solid foods. A stall isn't really a stall unless it lasts for 2 weeks, I believe. Trust the system, trust the process, trust your body. The weight will come off if you stick with the program <3. Good luck with everything!

Don't forget to take your measurements as the scale doesn't always show that you are losing. My weight loss has started to slow but the inches are melting off so I don't get too concerned. I am almost 8 weeks post op and the lower the scale goes the slower the weekly losses (at least what I have noticed). As others have said, you started at a lower weight so instead of looking at total pounds loss, use a percentage.

Thankyou everyone! I really appreciate it and this has helped motivate me and not beat myself up so much!! I finally reached Onederland yesterday and I cried like a baby. It is an emotional journey and even the little successes feel amazing and help to inspire me to kick myself into gear even more!

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
