Surgery 5/14

Recommended Posts

Hello my fellow bariatric bro’s. I was sleeved Monday the 14th. I did the 3 month pre-op diet and the week of Clear Liquids.

I must say I’m proud to have come this far. I debated weight loss surgery for about a year.

This sipping on liquids is taking some time to get used to but it’s still early on.

Just went on an 8 minute walk. Here’s to hoping my belly doesn’t get loose and hang like an apron [emoji23]🤣

Looking forward to sharing experiences with everyone.

I started out at about 329. Highest weight ever. Surgery weight was 292.

@Whipa Our highest weight and surgery weight was similar. I'm 5'10" and currently at 194 after having VSG 10/16/17. It's a life changer and am so glad I decided to go through with it! Good luck to you on your journey. I'm closely evaluating skin to see if any surgery will be needed, but am hoping that it tightens up a bit over time.

Congrats on your surgery and the "apron" scares the crap out of me too.. i guess having an apron to deal with is a fair trade off for a longer, healthier life. Be nice to have it all though...lol

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. I have to start the Vitamins next week. Any suggestions. My doctor has the Bariatric Advantage chewable that he sells in his office. They are pricey though. Any suggestions on how to get quality ones but cut some corners with price?

I'm doing the Bariatric Choice all in one chewable 4x per day, along with a B1 pill in the morning, and B12 every 5 days. The chewable is about $22 per month and is quite reasonable. I had my 6 month checkup last month and all levels were where they needed to be.

Awesome! That is a good price for all in one. Any flavors to avoid?

I've only had the berry flavor. It's tolerable, and much better than a handful of pills multiple times per day. Wash down with a little Water

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
