Cara R 0 Posted May 16, 2018 Are you allowed to use a straw to drink a drink after surgery?
kordie 41 Posted May 16, 2018 No, my nutritionist says that it's hard to gauge how much you are drinking with each sip and also can introduce air into your stomach which can be painful. 1 GettinSkinnywithit reacted to this
jacky0218 30 Posted May 16, 2018 My doc gave me a rousing yes. He doesn’t believe in the air thing and totally thinks it’s fine to use straws 1 SGirl35 reacted to this

SGirl35 165 Posted May 16, 2018 Are you allowed to use a straw to drink a drink after surgery?I’m 7 months out and use straws more often than I would before.. I don’t notice a difference in air, but you have to be careful with larger sips... although I tend to gulp down too much even without straws.. learning process I guess. Sadiebug 206 Posted May 16, 2018 I think this still varies widely depending on your program and surgeon. My program is a cautious yes starting around 6 months. They generally prefer you don't use straws especially at first because it's easier to accidentally get larger sips/gulps. But, if you use them and don't have any problems they don't care - especially if it means you are getting your liquids in.
Alex Brecher 10,515 Posted May 17, 2018 My personal opinion is that’s it’s definitely OK. Stop using a straw it causes any pain or discomfort. 1 sammi123 reacted to this
Myaiku_Kuraitani 245 Posted May 17, 2018 You can. I use them here and there without a problem and find that everything is still intact. Hw-273Sw-226CW-124GW-130Size- 2, Small in sweats.
