When do the post op gas pains disappear?

Recommended Posts

I’ll be 6 days post op tomorrow from having RNY. My gas pains are brutal. I feel it wrapped around to my lower back & in between my belly button & breasts.

I started gas x today for some relief.

Also when do our stools stop being explosive liquid?

it took it until Day 10-11 until I found relief from gas and bloat. I was doing gas-x strips and then extra strength gas-x from the beginning, but it was still not good. Here is what I ended up doing- peppermint oil rubbed on my stomach, drank peppermint tea, and started using maximum strength Maalox. It is a thin liquid that worked! Between that and time, it slowly got better.

My daughter rubbed my back and I kept burping like a baby immediately after my surgery on the 14/5. It eased it immensely and I felt so much better, get your partner or a family member to rub your back :)

I’ve read on other forums that GasX and similar products don’t really work for gastric procedures. The type of gas that we experience is due to the gas used to inflate the abdomen during our surgery. It gives the surgeon room to work. GasX type gas is intestinal. Walking, heating pads, tea and leg exercises are said to work. Check this out: https://healdove.com/health-care-industry/Getting-Gas-Pain-Relief-after-Surgery[emoji255]. I hope it helps.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
