Hello!

I am wondering if anyone else out there often feels like they are not ready? I am self-paying so I haven't had to go through appointments with nutritionist and counselors. I have done tonnes of research and I feel like I have really good understanding of what my life will look like after and where I might struggle. I have been casually looking into it for two years and finally felt this was the time. I do plan on seeing a food counselor post - op.

I often have thoughts that I don't want this bad enough or don't have the right mind set yet. I start my pre-op diet tomorrow and today I went out for one last lunch with my co-workers as I know I won't be able to for a long time and I got a falafel and veggie wrap (so not too unhealthy) but I was thinking like "man, I am going to miss food" , "Maybe I am making a mistake" , "maybe weighing 256lbs is not so bad".

Does anyone have any advice? I feel like I need to be scared straight. I have been overweight/obese since I was 8. I don't know what its like to not be and that is kind of scary. I know deep down I am doing the right thing. I have two small kids who need me to be healthy and need me to set a good example and I am so tired of carrying this weight and it holding me back.

I went and spoke with a psychologist. It was worth every penny. Sometimes you can find free counselors too. Just talking helped me know whether I was truly ready or not. Good luck to you on your journey.

I think it will be good for you to speak to a professional and I hope that your surgical team will give you information that you can use besides the typical diet options.

but you pretty much answered your own question, you have been obese majority of your life and you have kids whom need their mother. That would be enough for me.

no one is every fully ready for a lifelong change. The same thing when people say “oh, you’re never ready for kids.” Your nerves are just talking and that’s ok. You have got this! The journey will be well worth it I am sure.

And remember, there’s all of us on this forum with tons of info

Don't wait. I say that because you deserve to be healthy, get excited about how much fun it will be to run in the park with your kids, ride bikes and go hiking in the Grand Canyon!!!

And I say it because you will still enjoy food, less food but good food. Your head will need adjusting all along the way, so schedule a couple sessions, book the surgery, and then continue to go as changes/fears arise. Good luck.

And don't forget the joy of fitting in auditorium seats for all those school plays and award ceremonies!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
