Can I cut (instead of chew) my chewable multivitamin?

Recommended Posts

I started Vitamins today. I have Bariatric Advantage calcium citrate caramel chews (yummy!) which I have no problem chewing. They taste good.

However, the Bariatric Advantage Multivitamin mixed fruit chews are testing my gag reflex. I chewed and swallowed the first one. It was distasteful to me to put it mildly. I had to immediately wash my mouth out with Water.

I have to take another. Can I just cut it with my pill cutter and swallow the whole pieces with water? Does that way interfere with absorption? Oh man, they do NOT agree with me. LOL

I have the same issue with the chewable berry version. They make me gag. I tried mixing in unsweetened applesauce but that didn't even help. I did try swallowing them whole and was advised to not do that as absorption wasn't optimized. Not sure about pieces - it likely helps some, but could affect absorption as well. I think a call to the doc might be in order for a final verdict.

You should definitely ask the doctor. I could not have them either; I would throw them up. My doctor ended up switching me to the flinstons chewable until I was able to swallow pills.

Thank you both!

I called my surgeon’s office and I also the phone number on the Vitamin bottle.

Doc office said they prefer I chew them or crush them into powder and eat them with applesauce.

The Person who answered the 800 number said I could cut them and swallow the pieces with Water.< br>
So two different answers lol.

I like the idea of Flintstones chewable ....do you take one a day?

I would go with what your surgeon's office recommends. Try to crush them and put them in the applesauce. The only reason I switched was because it was still making me sick to eat them even after crushing them (my surgeon's office recommended the same to me too). The Flinstones chewable was a last resort. But keep them informed too, the Vitamins are really important!

Best of luck!

The Bariatric Advantage ones are horrible. Try BariMelts Multivitamin, Dissolvable Bariatric Vitamins, In smooth Fruit Flavor.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
