How'd you know you had an ulcer?

Recommended Posts

So, I've contacted my Dr's office but they have to give me a call back. While I'm waiting, I'm just curious how you knew you had an ulcer? Did it happen over night or gradually? Out of all the pain I've had, I haven't had any with eating or drinking. I've been able to do both just fine until this morning. Now every sip or bite I take is very painful. Idk if it's an ulcer or something else, so I would love some feedback of other's experience.

Thanks!

Well I have gastritis and Hector, which one is causing my pain. Gripy pain ,mid upper abdomen going over to under right ribcage. You eat and 2 hours later it returns Milk doesn't help a whole lot, coffee, spices and peppermint intensifies the gripe. You want to bend over your forearm , thinking the pressure will somehow stop it.
If you do manage to eat, you can eat only a small until you feel over-full. And where, eating might have once satisfied you it doesn't help now. Honestly, the only, relief I get is due to my extre strength PPI Dexilant. Protein Shakes don't upset it at all, isn't that strange? Should I also be on Carafate? Don't know, my gastroenterologist closed his, practice here and went to a larger city multi-docttor group, 6 days before my,next scheduled appointment. Now I am faced, with asking my,PCP or asking someone affiliated, with my new Bariatric Surgeon in Columbus. I'm not rocking the boat at this, point.😪

PS for the few who haven't heard, Hector,is the name of my small, unperfrated gastric ulcer. Hector can not from H Pylori bacteria but from excessive NSAID usage. My life goal-to keep Hector sound asleep.😟

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
