Thanks everybody - one more question. How do I find out the right amount of calories for me to take in per day - is it based on my weight?

what i had to do was experiment. and it still is a flux of cals/carbs based on what i do that day. i dont want to stay the same cals so i can keep my body confused and the metabolism going ... also, if i am working out (especially running) i need to up the cals a bit so i dont get light headed.

good luck!

I track calories & carbs & try and stay within 20% fat. If I vear from carbs and only watch my calories, I don't lose. I have learned for me, all the above counts!

Well tomorrow I should be able to tell whether or not only eating Cookies for a day, and the calories add up to what a regular day's meals usually are, will cause me to gain or stay the same.

My boss brought the best homemade Cookies I have ever tasted to work today. Once I tried one, there was no stopping me. I have concluded that I used up all my calories for the day.

denise - what i suggest is just to jump back on track now. (i know, not easy).

eat your scheduled lunch / snack (if any) / dinner. dont deprive yourself cause you will then just be so hungry and want to veer off path again.

you can do this!

About 7 years ago (pre-band) I went on a low-fat diet and lost 70 lbs. I just made sure to keep track of my fat intake. I didn't count calories, carbs or anything else and it worked great for me. But then I had a friend who could count fat intake all day and not lose weight but on a low carb diet, she lost a lot of weight. I did Atkins for over a month and lost nothing at all. I think it's different for everybody. What works for one, may not work for another. You just have to find what works for you and go with it.

I didn't gain any weight from eating Cookies all day yesterday.

I was very good today and followed all the bandster rules, and did a lot of exercise this morning. I want that ticker to move!

I'm a Protein counter. My dietician set a protein intake goal of 59 grams a day, no more than 2 grams of sugar per serving, and limit fat intake to 9 grams per meal. I've lost 60 pounds in 4 months. Things are slowing down now and I feel that I need a jump start. My bodybugg will hopefully help me get that jumpstart. I'm awaiting delivery ~ there was delay due to missorting with UPS. Oops!

Sweetpea51, here is an equation that tell you exactly the cals in/cals out.

First you need your Basal Metabolic Rate(go to discover health. com and type that in they have calculator that will figure it out for you)

Second, you need the amount of calories you are eating in a day

Then you need the number of calories burned during exercise

So here is my equation MY BMR= 1938

I eat= 1000 calories a day

I burn 300 at the gym

(1938-1000)+300= 1238

1238 is the my deficit of calories for the day

times that by 7(days in the week)=8666 calories burned for the week.

1 pound = 3500 calories

8666/3500=2.476 (2.5) pounds lost per week.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
