Hi, my surgery is scheduled for may 29th, starting my pre op diet today. I'm pretty nervous as I've never had surgery before.

Welcome! Most of us are nervous about our pending surgery. But the good news is that you are in the right place! My surgery is scheduled on 5/25 so I feel your pain. Right now, stay in the forums and educate yourself as much as possible. One of my favorite sites is https://www.obesitycoverage.com. You can find a wealth of information there. Good luck and congratulations on taking the first steps to a healthier lifestyle!

Welcome! I had the bypass done on 3/29, and it too was my first surgery. The worst part was the diarrhea from the contrast used for the swallow test to make sure there are no leaks combined with the gas they pump you up with. Take my advice. Always go to the bathroom! Trust nothing! Lol. You probably won’t have much energy and will feel drained for a few weeks after, it will get better and then all of a sudden you’ll have a ton of energy, for me it was the 4th week once I started back on solid foods.

Thank you for your help, jldoublee. What you read in books means much less than a first-hand account. You're a bypass veteran, as a potential RnY "kangaroo kid" I look up to you. My future pouch-hood should occur in June 2018.😝

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
