yep, I have the 21st date also! I think the anxiety alone is getting me through this liquid 2 week diet.

I dropped 8 pounds in the last 2 weeks from nerves. I tend not to eat when I get very stressed, hell I have gone 3 days with 0 calories just before because of some stress at work so I am interested to see how much weight I drop before the surgery. Luckily for me I don't have to do a liquid diet before my surgery, so I wish you the best of luck with yours.

I’m scheduled for May 21! I’ve been anxiously awaiting getting a surgery date and now I’m feeling the anxiety. Got preregistered at hospital today. Blood work, EKG and chest X-ray done also. Once they handed me the Hibiclense, I realized this is happening.

It is still kind of sneaking up on me in a way, I have been in the program for almost a year now and it has been so long it is almost not registering that this is really it, less than a week. I think this weekend is when it will really hit as I don't have work to keep me occupied. I might just be doing some work from home over this weekend to channel some of the nervous energy.

Oh my, I had no idea before discovering this forum that there was so much support. I havent met another male who has had this surgery and I've learned that it makes no difference. I think we are all a bit nervous but seriously, for me that is greatly outweighed by the overwhelming feelings of excitement. My surgery is 5/21. Joy...5:30Am I need to be there.

Somewhere along the line, I decided that my life needed an overhaul. 90% dedication to work(I work for that same fruit company that Forrest Gump invested in) and 10% dedication to everything else(including my body).

I had an epiphany and Im flipping that distribution on its head. Work can take a back seat. Oh, I'll still show up and do what I need to do, but this surgery and the mindset that I've embraced will be my chance in life to create Java 2.0.

Do you folks feel that as well?

Im a noob to this forum, but I think I have found a home here. From what I've read here , everyone is a bit nervous, everyone is a bit tired of liquids:) But the common theme is that everyone seems to know in their hearts that they are becoming. Becoming confident, becoming healthy, becoming active, becoming themselves.

Darn it, I'd like to kayak. I've decided to make it so.

Cheers to all of you May Sleevers and best wishes on your journey we are sharing.

Definitely.

My big downhill slope started about 4 years ago when I had to have emergency surgery for a congenital heart condition I had no idea I had until one day it felt like there was a fish flopping around in my heart. I was a bit overweight but still reasonably fit up until that point, but after that surgery physical activity caused skipped heartbeats and I became very sedentary, but I neglected to change my eating habits when it happened.

It has taken a few years for my heart to adjust to the surgery but I can now exercise without that happening to much anymore but I feel like I am carrying around a 120lbs rucksack all the time, and it is just incredibly difficult on my back, knees, and hips to get moving. This is going to be the jump start I need. I simply can't wait to get back out into the bush again and do more hunting and fishing, get back in the gym and start lifting again, and I am really excited to pick up martial arts again. And the best part will be getting to do all this with my kids.

I am prior military and a military mindset is how I am approaching this, dedication and commitment to change 100%. I will not fail, it is simply not an option I am willing to accept. I have this, WE have this and we will WIN. And if anybody ever tells you that getting surgery is the easy way out and cheating remember this saying. "Always cheat, always win, the only unfair fight is the one you lose!"

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
