Keona1323 11 Posted May 13, 2018 I am getting sleeves June 6th. I am flying across the country for self pay. In order to get the time off work, I had to admit to having a surgery done. But I didn’t say what. I know I don’t have to say anything, but for those who don’t want people to know...... what did you say? I’m wondering what ‘pretend procedure’ I can say I had as a cover story. We’re any of you in this situation???
lorax 14 Posted May 13, 2018 I think as long as HR accepts your reasoning you don't owe an explanation to anyone that you don't want to. Just say you are having something corrected , thank them for their concern but you don't want to share anything past that , in whatever form you feel like is going to work in that conversation. 3 ProudGrammy, Orchids&Dragons and sillykitty reacted to this
ChiakiAngel 8 Posted May 13, 2018 I agree with Iorax's advice. It is no one's business but your own on what you're having done. Good luck on your surgery!
allwet 868 Posted May 13, 2018 dont make up a pretend surgery. just say surgery and then stare them in the eye till they slink back into the hole they crawled out of. 2 ProudGrammy and KimTriesRNY reacted to this
Frustr8 7,886 Posted May 13, 2018 I agree with the above, just tell them, you have something needing repair, if they persist say it's something personal, and change to another subject. They can imagine you're having a nose repair, arches put back in your feet, even a sex change, you don't need to,inform them of anything. 1 allwet reacted to this

We’re any of you in this situation??? You have the right to medical privacy. It's none of their business. Once people see your rapid weight loss they will speculate that you have cancer or had bariatric surgery. It's still none of their business and you don't owe them an explanation. 1 ProudGrammy reacted to this
mjcclkwd 27 Posted May 13, 2018 I did not tell my employer the type of surgery, just that I needed to have surgery. Luckily they did not press me for information just asked if I was ok. I go back to work later this week and I know there will be speculation and/or questions. Bottom line is that it is no ones business but your own and you control who you want to tell. I am still not sure of how I am going to answer questions that mat come up. Just remember this is your journey and you do not have to explain to anyone you don’t want to. 1 ProudGrammy reacted to this

That will surely stir things up and have rumors flying around. Think of all the internal laughs you could have. 2 allwet and ProudGrammy reacted to this
Loder77 18 Posted May 14, 2018 I didn't want my mother or brothers family to know what I had done but had to tell them something so I said my surgeon was going to fix a hernia which was true since he fixed a little hernia I had when he did my sleeve. YeahOkay31 651 Posted May 14, 2018 I was "lucky" that they were repairing a hiatal hernia at the same time as my sleeve so I just told everyone I was getting hernia surgery--hey, it wasn't a lie!

Diana_in_Philly 1,426 Posted May 14, 2018 I'm sure you really don't want to hear about my hemorrhoids . . . (Notice I didn't say that's what the surgery was, just making a statement they could make an assumption on.) On a serious note, you owe no one an explanation other than I'm having surgery, my doctor says I need to be out for X time and when I return I will/will not have restrictions. That's it. 1 ProudGrammy reacted to this
