I asked my Dr. to phone in a Rx for Vaniqa. I didn't even stop and think about what it would cost. On the way home I went to pick it up and my doctor had called in 2 months' worth - 2 tubes. The cost was $311.97.

If you don't know what Vaniqa is, it's a cream you apply twice daily to slow facial hair growth in women. It clearly states it does not remove or prevent facial Hair growth, it just slows it down. During clinical trials, 42% of women reported no change or increased growth.

It's 4 - 6 weeks before you notice any difference, and after that it's supposed to slow the growth "moderately." You still have to remove the hair. I was told that if I wax my eyebrows once a month, I might expect to only wax them every 6 weeks. That's like paying $75 per week of not waxing. The most I've ever paid for an actual wax was $40, usually it's around $10. Hmm, not much debating the bargain. Oh, and if you don't see results in 6 months (or $935, whichever way you want to look at it) you discontinue use and chalk it up to "not for me." And then cry because you're out the money.

Laser hair removal. Changed my life. A ton of money, but I haven't used a razor in 3 years.

I REALLY want to get that done, but every clinic I've talked to says the hair has to be about 1/4 inch long. And well, mine is all over my neck. I'd look like Sasquatch if I let it grow that long. I'd never be able to leave the house.

Just grow your hair out for a season. If it's on the front of your neck, do it in winter and wear turtlenecks. Or ask them if you can bleach it.

Most of it is on the underside of my chin and the very front of my neck, where a turtleneck wouldn't reach. I've asked about bleach, and I've always been told that the reason the laser works is that it picks up on dark hairs (it doesn't work as well with light ones). I think I'm just out of luck, unless I can find a 2-3 week period (my hair grows VERY quickly) where I can just stay holed up in my apartment (and then wear bandages on the way to the clinic, so that no one would see the hair - it'd still look stupid, but better than Sasquatch).

That's not exactly true. You can't wax because the laser follows the hair to the root, but you can shave the hair. In fact you have to before treatment. I had my legs and armpits done and it's among the best money that I ever spent. The place that I went to had an interest free 18 month credit deal with care credit too which was great.

Also, I was also told it DOES work better on dark hair -- but if you bleach, does the bleach only bleach the external part of the hair, or does it reach the root? Does this matter? I have no idea; I'm just posing the question. You might want to ask.

I dunno. I'm willing to go stubbly, since I usually have lot of stubble with just a day or two's growth. I just hated the thought of having really OBVIOUS Hair growth there. And I'm lucky enough (not!) to have very pale skin and extremely dark hair.

Go for it! Don't wait till you're in your 40's like I did. My mom just got her first treatment and she's 80! I never had to have stubble either. If it's not shaved completely off it will burn so if there is stubble the nurse typically shaves it right before the treatment.
