Hello all... I have a tentative date for September 24th for my gastric sleeve procedure. I'm very excited and nervous at the same time! One of the questions I have is-- are there any natural or artificial sweeteners that I can use after my surgery going forward with the rest of my life?

I'm trying now to get used to not eating sugar but don't want to go to artificial sweeteners if I will no longer be able to eat those either. What about the sugar that are in fruit and milk? How about Monk Fruit as a sweetener?

After sleeve most people can use any sweetener.

I'm a sucralose fan (splenda).

Real sugar is typically not a problem for people with sleeve...so you have to be careful with it because we don't really dump like people who have bypass. (Have heard that some people do, but it's much more rare in sleeve folks. I find that if I eat too much sugar I get kinda grossed out and need a glass of water.)

No problems with sugar in milk and fruit.

Avoiding refined sugar is very important...it's a slippery slope a lot of us have problems overindulging in...and most refined sugar products are slider foods, so they'll feel comfortable going down eventually....so you have to use some discipline to avoid getting in trouble with them.

Some programs limit carbs....and nearly all programs limit or eliminated refined carbs.

Pretty much any of the artificial sweeteners...and the natural ones like stevia and Monk Fruit are ok.

Foods that pretty much turn to liquid in your stomach and "slide" right through. Some are perfectly acceptable, like yogurt, others can become a real problem like milkshakes, chips (turn easily to mush) or crackers. Since they don't stay in your stomach for long, you don't get a feeling of fullness and can easily over-indulge.
