Losing weight but not sizes

Recommended Posts

I had the gastric bypass 4/20 and I've lost 30 lbs but nothing looks or fits differently. What's going on?

After my sleeve, I had to lose 50 lbs before I could change sizes.

Same here. I was down 40 before I need anything new. Even now my old stuff still fits, just looks baggy on me.

I noticed I lost weight in my thighs first, which doesn’t really effect clothing. Also a lot of my clothing is stretchy, so it won’t “fall off” you like non stretchy clothing.

@sillykitty thank you for your post, it reminded me to go check things I don't usually wear, yeah there is a difference. I guess I just have been dressing loose and sloppy, in dressier things 👗I can now see a little change. And I feel a little better, about me.😛

Same thing happened to me. My work slacks have a good bit of stretch in them and I was frustrated that i hadn’t been able to move to the next size. So I tried on some older slacks of a different brand that I no longer wore because they were a bit tight. And those were hanging off me! That’s when I realized that stretchy clothes are deceiving!

I'm doing the same. My jeans are baggy, but most of my weight loss seems to be form my legs and upper body. I'm happy I'm losing weight, but I'll just need to be more patient fro smaller sized pants.

I hate to disappoint you but, I'm 4 months post op and over 90lbs down and I just this week got new pants, I went from a 24/26 to a 16/18 (so realistically only 2 sizes). My belly is hanging on for DEAR LIFE... And while I know that at my high BMI, 90lbs is just the half way point... so I shouldn't be discouraged. But have you ever thought about filling up a grocery cart worth of 90lbs of ground beef? Well, I have... and how do you loose 90lbs in everywhere, seemingly, but your belly! Frustration should be my username.

It took awhile for the sizes to change. Then, it was like I couldn't get my money's worth out of clothes before changing sizes. But, you also have to consider the skin as you loose weight. I tended to stay in my sizes longer than necessary because the fitting clothes show your lumps more or push your skin in weird ways. And it makes you feel larger.

Once you start dropping sizes it seems to change fast good will was my go to store so I wasn’t spending a fortune. I still wear my bigger clothes just in very different ways. Shirts that were too tight I now wear over tights like a short dress or tied around my waist. You can get very creative.

I know the feeling! I was running out of stuff that even fit at my surgery weight. So it took awhile before I needed to get rid of anything or buy anything.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
