Are you still pre-op? If so, a glass of wine probably won't hurt. If you are actually post-op, I'm not sure how long you should wait--your information from the bariatric practice may say, but you are no doubt aware that it may affect you more than before, right? Besides being empty calories . . .

The effects of alcohol consumption soon after surgery can be dramatic. The effects of drinking one glass of wine might be equivalent to drinking 5 glasses of wine prior to surgery. Two months post-op is probably too soon.

I'm a sleever, too. I had a glass or 2 of wine (a few times) at about 6-7 weeks, and it stalled my weight loss. And it does hit you like a ton of bricks, so be prepared for that. :) I have Mother's Day and FIL's 95th this weekend, and I am sticking with iced tea. If I am feeling bold, maybe I'll try Pellegrino!

Around 2 months post op I had a drink, it didnt effect me any differently.

That said I didnt really enjoy it, and I found it very filling.

I drank at 3 weeks post op. It was a week long work event that had nightly cocktails hours. And was otherwise very alcohol focused. I was really drinking just to fit in and to not draw attention to my WLS. i did not enjoy drinking. Which was very different from pre op! I felt no difference in the effect of the alcohol though. I never even got the slightest bit buzzed.

After that week I have mostly swore off drinking because it caused a weight gain. That week I averaged 700 cals per day, including alcohol, and returned home to a 2 LB gain. That pissed me off, and made not drinking an easy decision.

Since then I have had a couple of glasses of wine. One was forced upon me by my boss when we were out to dinner on my birthday. The other is when I was having a nice tapas style dinner w a friend that had an amazing wine by the glass menu. That was the first time I really wanted a drink. I had one, it tasted good, but not as good as before. These glasses of wine did not hit me harder than usual, in fact I didn’t feel any effect from them at all.

I am just shy of 2 months post-op. I am debating on trying wine to see what kind of effect it has on me. This of course will be in the confines of my own home, possible with a helmet on. I wouldn't dare try hard liquor yet. I am thinking I will try that around New Years.

Ive had hard liquor but not wine.

But from my experience I think liquor would be easier.

Trying to drink something with too much volume (ie wine, beer) would just bother your tummy and you wouldnt get buzzed since you cant have the volume.

Of course everybodys experiences are different

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
