My psychologist just talked to me. It was actually relaxing. They basically want to know that you are going into this with the right attitude and that you are ready to make the changes.

Mine was also just really a conversation. She inquired as to why I wanted the surgery, what I had attempted in the past, why now? Not bad.

You take some tests to determine if you're a psychopath, and then you chat. I had a great time in mine!

I don't think they can discriminate against fluffy psychopaths! Ok, they might not want to give them access to scalpels, so make sure they're totally out before they get to the operating room!

I said, well I'm glad the test is over, does it really take 400 questions to determine how bad of a psychopath I am? And he laughed and said, yes. :)

At the end of our talk I said that I was very relieved to know I'm not a psycho and he said, that I wasn't, but that I wasn't completely devoid of a few "issues" either. LOL. I looked at him, winked, laughed and said, "Ya think?" *snort*

Thank you all for your replies 👍

I was concerned they could make it or break it for me to have surgery 🤪

Not so long as you don't say that this is a magic bullet that will fix all your problems and you'll never have to watch what you eat again.

Mine actually told me after our initial talking and the extensive (600 questions) testing that while I was clearly intelligent I have a problem with following rules and that would make me a poor candidate for this type of surgery. Really. I then discussed that I have always been a problem solver and one to think outside of the box at times (qualities I think make me a good nurse practitioner) but that I had NO INTENTION of not following the rules and recommendations of the bariatric team since they clearly know more than me in this situation. He then said he would need to write it up in such a way not to disqualify me. I am still a little put off about the whole thing.

And silke, not to throw a wet wool blanket, they can because one made my road to bariatric surgery almost come to an end. But I am a strong woman, still went forward and my last evaluation refruted the vindictive error-laden first and I am well on my way to,prove all Nay-Sayers wrong. Persistence trumps lies and it always will!😛🚩😛

Mine tried to goad a reaction out of me by going on about "how weight loss should be pretty simple its just calories in and calories out " in a very snotty tone she was a gem, lol I just calmly explained how the rest of the procedure works and she gave me a pass. ( thankfully since it was 300 dollars out of pocket)

I've worked in psych and have been doing therapy and medication since age 5. So for me it was a matter of just being up front and saying yes I have a therapist a psych and emotional support at home

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
