Karen Marlatt 1 Posted May 9, 2018 Hi everyone, I am brand new here. 60 year old female. Bariatric sleeve surgery 2/20/18 (11 weeks ago). Surgery weight 235, current weight (unofficial, home scale) 210. I’m super depressed today because last week I was 205 on this scale. True I weighed myself today after Breakfast and drinking 40 oz of Water, but I thought my weight would be down, not up. Truth is, I’m having trouble staying away from bad foods. I thought this would be a lot easier. I babysit my grandchildren at my daughter’s house, where everyone is skinny and there’s tons of contraband food hanging around all the time. I am walking every single morning at a brisk pace for 20 minutes which I love, but maybe I should be doing more? Is anyone else having similar trouble? 1 GreenTealael reacted to this

Danny Paul 761 Posted May 9, 2018 When you say you're having trouble staying away from bad foods what do you consider bad foods? Here's what I've discovered about bad foods. (Sweets empty calories) they are poison to me. At first I never considered a piece of cake poison since it always brought me some sort of pleasure. That piece of cake and all the rest that followed were contributing to my obesity and bad health. Unlike the common poisons that can do you harm fairly quickly this poison takes it's toll on you over time. After my surgery and with the help of a therapist I see how bad foods have poisoned my good health. For some they can tolerate the poison in moderation and it will not affect them much. For me I must look at bad food differently and try my best to keep those poisons out of my system. If the bad foods are having an adverse effect on you stay away from them and bring healthier food with you. It's a long road we travel and many here find it easier than others. You like me (btw I'm 61,) need to work harder at it. If your insurance covers it a good therapist really puts things in perspective. Support groups also help. Good luck, don't be discouraged a healthier you is in the ma king.

SleeveinIL 386 Posted May 9, 2018 It is okay to reset and start over if you have been snacking on foods that are not supposed to be on the menu. You can do it!

Personally? If I were spending my day providing free babysitting...I would expect the junk food to be put away on the days I was expected to stay there with the kids. They don't need to get rid of it....but they can put it away somewhere private and the kids don't have to eat it in front of you. While it's true that "they're not on a diet"....you are providing your family your support by babysitting... and you deserve to have that support returned. Also...if your grandbabies are blood related, they share your genetics. They might be skinny now, but that is no guarantee the genetics won't catch them later. I was a super skinny kid. It didn't last. LOL. It is never too early to teach healthy eating habits and good food choices. It is not too much to ask that the kids eat healthy with you while you're taking care of them. Health food never killed a kid yet. ALSO! Take those kids to the park and play. Grandma should chase the ball, swing on swings, play in the sandbox...get some exercise. There's a reason those little people are skinny...they're in constant motion. Play the games. Teach them hopscotch. If nothing else, walk laps while they play. Be inspired by their nonstop energy and join in:) Edited May 9, 2018 by Creekimp13 2 1 Frustr8, Apple203 and Shbunni reacted to this

Beta98 93 Posted May 10, 2018 I think its the Snacks, your body is trying to find a new setpoint and as long as junk sneaks in it feels it doesn't have to. Make it know you have changed your life and it needs to get with the program Good luck!
