How long did it take for your incision pain to stop?

Recommended Posts

I’m having the common pain I read so much about at the incision next to my bellybutton. How long did this last for you?

I didn't have specific pain right after the surgery; it came a week and a half in at the main incision site and lasted for about a week. Hurt like heck when I moved, so I stayed as still as much as possible. Hang in there.

I am one week out today and I noticed a significant drop in the incisional pain on post op day #5. At this point, there is mild discomfort when getting out of bed but otherwise no pain. I have taken no pain medication in 4 days.

I was lucky because I didn't have any pain in any of my incisions. Could it be the waistline on your clothes? I hope you feel better!

Are you in pain meds? I felt a lot worse once I got home. But I’m glad you aren’t hurting and I hope that sticks!!

I’m a week out too and also stopped pain meds 4 days ago! Today I feel like a turned a corner for the better, I feel like I think that almost every day lately. Even my main incision pain is better than it was last night.
It was so crazy to look at the clock today and think about where I was this time last week.

It’s definitely internal at the incision site, but from what I read it’s normal. I just want it to go away! It freaks me out that there is a stitch in there, and what it if pops? Oh godddd. It’s all in my head but it’s freaking me out! [emoji23]

in 2004 I had to have internal surgery for non weight loss reasons. The had to cut me open from my navel all the way to the top of my pubic area. I had internal stitches and external staples. Trust me, if you do what they tell you it won't pop. Just take care of yourself.

The big incision where they took out the cut stomach through took a few weeks to heal. It was more of a "pulling" sensation if I moved abruptly in certain positions. It eventually just faded away. My surgery was July last year.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
