midband vs. lapband

Recommended Posts

Hi Tara, I live in Stafford, VA just above Fredericksburg. I went up to Frederick MD to Dr. Susan Brinkley today for my 1st fill. She was really great. No flouro but she got the port exactly 1st time, no pain. She is a lap band patient also so was great to talk to. There were several drs listed in Richmond at the Fillcentersusa. You might be able to find one closer. Depending on where you had your surgery, a dr around there may do it for you. Over here, they don't want to do the Mexico patients. Dr. Brinkley says it is because they are in a snit about losing the money since they make so much if they do the lapband and fills are minor $$ to them. Good luck. :)Laura

The best way to find a dr is to go into the section here on the forum labled Fill doctors, or something like that. That's where I got Dr. Brinkley's name from. Depends on where you are located. I could probably have found one in the Richmond area but because of traffice, it's just as easy to go north as south around this area, you're still going to be tied up for a few hours. Good luck. :)Laura

If I could do things over again I would get the LapBand instead of the MidBand. I have found it very difficult to get a fill because it is not approved by the FDA. I do not want to go back to Mexico!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
