Prior to me having WLS, Coke and Pepsi were my crutch, my kryptonite. I could go all day without eating just drinking soda. I was so dehydrated for many years. I hated Water with a passion and I would drink it rarely. Now, I don't crave soda and water and I have a good relationship. My body feels better.

I use to drink soda for days. I didn't drink it for 6 months at least after surgery and then I would let the carbonation dissipate in my mouth. Now, officially, a year out and I can drink soda no problem but maybe an oz or two of soda is very satisfying.

I used to have a massive Diet Coke habit, and would drink the equivalent of 8-10+ cans per day. Knowing that the surgery was in my future I decided to quit it 20 months or so before. That was one of the hardest things I ever had to do and I suffered through terrible withdrawal (headaches, muscle aches, sweating etc). Perhaps that was my because of my withdrawal method (started by halving my consumption, then reduced by a can every few days), but I am glad I didn't try to manage that at the same time of recovering from surgery. I don't think I could have managed, the pain and dietary changes all at ones. I am now some 22 months caffeine free and a little over 2 months post op and glad for all the changes I made in my life. I haven't really been tempted to backslide on drinking Diet Coke, because it was just too hard to quit.

I was the same - 8-10 diet cokes a day. I tried moderation and cheated regularly. I just had to quit entirely. Terrible withdrawal. Like you, I won't cheat because quitting was so hard. I haven't had even one sip of Diet Coke in 2.5 years.

Oof I am pre op and horrible soda habit. It doesn't even matter the type. I'm pretty much addicted to the sweetness and carbonation

NO SURGERY YET. I have been a coke drinker my whole life! So it’s hard, but i can do diet. It’s not a problem ( i don’t like Diet Coke but i can do Diet Pepsi! Haha) it’s going to be the most hard for me to not be able to drink it after surgery because of the carbonation [emoji24] how long after surgery was anyone able to drink carbonation? When my mom had gastric bypass she couldn’t drink Diet Pepsi for 3 years. I will dieeeee[emoji30][emoji24][emoji30][emoji24][emoji30]

I had my first soda about two days ago, which is three weeks after surgery. I feel fine, but I know it’s not an everyday thing, it’s a once in a blue moon treat for me. It’s different for everyone, so I don’t know if you’ll be ready or not at 3 weeks, get in track with your body and see how it feels then try. But don’t make a habit out of it, only as a treat.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
