When will the weightloss start?

Recommended Posts

Hi! [emoji177]

Had my sleeve done 20th march, so it's almost 7 weeks post op. Since the surgery I've only lost about 5 kilos, in total with the liquid diet pre op included it's 11 kilos.

I read everyday about people who drops several lbs every week and I'm sitting here like yepp.. not happening. [emoji17] I'm starting to loose hope, and I'm slowly starting to accept that I'm probably going to be fat for the rest of my life. I do exactly as my doctor tells me to do with diet and exercise, but still nothing.

Sorry for being all negative, I'm just so sad to see that everyone else succeeds and not me.

Someone with the same experience? How did it go for you?

Wow, MiltonP, that is amazing! I've lost about the same amount of weight, but it's been since late August when I had my surgery . . . which illustrates your point exactly. We lose at different rates. Sometimes it really takes a while for your body to heal and the losing to start--but, Miss Sweden, it WILL happen if you follow your program and be patient a bit. My doctor told me not to weigh myself for the first couple of months (not that I listened to that advice . . .).

I know the feeling --I am 5 weeks out and have not lost nearly as much as my son did --but I remind myself --if you have less weight to lose overall it is going to come off slower I think.

Don't despair! Comparing yourself to others isn't helpful. There are people here who are on liquids for 4 weeks post op, others go right to soft foods. There are people in their 20's and people in their 70's. Male and Female. Some need to lose hundreds of pounds, others just 50. All those things make a big difference is how fast you lose. The most important factor is that NOT ONE of those people has your body/metabolism. And your body is the only one that matters right now.

11 kilos is nothing to be ashamed of. It's slower than you'd like, but maybe you had more swelling or just take longer to heal. The weight will come off and in the book of your life, this will be only a chapter! Keep the faith!

Eating what my doctor recommends. Mostly Protein, little carbs. chicken, salmon, tuna, vegetables etc. I exercise everyday for minimum 1 hour. Powerwalking, jogging, cardio in general and a little bit strenght as well by lifting weights.

Faith Miss Swendon Just keep your emotions from ruining your progress.

How long you were overweight has a lot to do with the hormonal issues you will face.

It is not an issue of calories in calories out. It is hormone driven. It takes some peoples bodies longer to readjust those hormones post surgery. When the hormones are right then the reduced calories you are on post op will begin to have an effect. If your metabolism is wrecked this could take several months.

Some people take 2 years to reach there goal but in the end you will get there and you will see all kinds of non scale victories along the way.

good luck and stay strong

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
